Is there a big difference between Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home? Right now I do believe i'm using Home but I plan to re-format since my computer's acting wacky. I do have both CD's though so I just wanted another person's opinion on this. Stick to Windows HOME or go Pro?

There are some minor differences, nothing really important if you're just using them in a home -- you'd never notice most of them.

If you do not need to connect to a domain, have real administrator accounts, do things with group policy, or other stuff, then choose Home. Very few consumers need Professional.

Pro gives you more control and options. I say go Pro, unless you are stupid.

leo2car, that is an execrable comment. Your saying that unless you're stupid, you should not buy/use Windows XP Home Edition which is an operating system for computers. You're calling the majority of PC users stupid then if that's what you're getting at. I seriously doubt you would even know how to use XP Professional to it's full potential, and if you have it you probably never even used Windows XP Home.

So please if you don't have anything useful to say, don't post it at all or rephrase it so you don't look like a total idiot.

I use Windows 2000 professional.

You need to have a more bran to use Pro, because it has more options(some of which can put your computor in danger), so have to have more brain power( a little smarter {but considering you are in tech, you should be fine})

From Microsoft comparision (link by ZoSo) you can draw your concution.

I agree with Nelson here.

You don't even need to be smarter to use Pro, it has more options, but they're all at the same level of "difficulty" as WinXP Home to use.

You're definitely not "stupid" for using WinXP Home.

And spelling. (Bran  )

Also, you shouldn't be so subjective. If I bought Windows XP Pro, sure it had more features, but was that what I really needed? It is not a matter of being stupid or not. Buy whatever is most practical for your day-to-day use. I'm sure you (Leo2Car) don't use much of the encryption and networking features.

gist is not a spelling error. "get the gist..." very common term...it means to understand the central idea.

He was not referring to shesoledout's post, he was adding onto her post, talking about leo2car's, as indicated by his saying "bran" in parenthesis."

The fact that you use Windows 2000...

However I agree that Pro is the way to go. Most won't see a difference. THe real reason why most use Home is because mant retailers *cough*DELL*cough*, put Home even on the most advanced PCs.
