Hello Everyone!

I'm going to college next year and I need to get a Laptop/Notebook (I should probably learn if there's actually a difference between them two first lol). So any recommendations? I have no budget, basically going all out on the best laptop I can get for college. So I guess i need a laptop that'll be good for college use, and at the same time good for gaming so that I will not be bored when I'm far away from home.

Please recommend some laptops/notebooks

or is custom better? (and if custom, where/how to do it?)

Thanks!

I'd have to say get a Dell. I have a dell laptop and a desktop and they're both great. I made the mistake of getting a wide screen laptop though- don't repeat it.

I like Dells, they are durable, but IBM Thinkpads are tanks (in quality and durability).

Sager is one of the best.
IBM is the best in quality, support, and durability. However, they cost a lot and aren't very good at gaming. Sagers combine the best of both worlds.

Same here, I would go for the Dell. It's been benchmarked and is faster than any other Laptop to date. I don't know if you have that kinda money though

BTW, a 6800 ultra for CS is overkill. If you have only CS in mind, any Laptop will do

Dells are terrible. I don't know what all of you are talking about. Anyone who has any PC building skills will tell you to either build your own, or pay someone to build one for you. If will be cheaper, and you'll know exactly what parts you are putting in.And if you're worried about it breaking, here is a list of warranties

AMD: 3 years
Asus: lifetime
Nvidia & ATI: 2 years (don't overclock and you'll be fine

Did you even read the original post? He/She wants a Laptop, and I REALLY doubt building a laptop would be the best solution (is it even possible for godsake?)

Oh, and the Dell XPS Gen 2 is the FASTEST laptop you can possibly buy right now. Don't agree with me? Here's some evidence:

Aegistar, I think a "desktop replacement" laptop may be the best bet if you want to play relatively cutting edge games and with ample power to boot. Only drawback is that battery life may be short and they tend to be on the heavy side, but you can't lose in terms of mobility power.

I don't know at all about Dell laptops, but as of Sager... They have pretty good tech support, from my prior experience.

----

Of course custom is better as they tailor the laptop to your given specs... Laptops are not exactly that flexible in terms of user-serviceable parts, as you can't upgrade them yourself as you can with a desktop computer... though recently, changes in design could allow that in the near future, in the meantime no to very limited self-upgrading.
