apples are swell for like making movies and using GarageBand and stuff like that. but overall, i'd pick a dell. you can do everything on them, PLUS you can use Anvil, Maya, StreetMixx, and Album Edit on them.

HP or Compaq is good. Just please, like a previous poster said, DO NOT GET A WIDESCREEN! It's not that good, and tends to make it bigger than you'd want it. Plus, Compaq is pretty cheap. Short battery Life, but cheap notheless. The only problem is that you'd have to customize it, so that it don't do the sputtering thing when you try to pay games.
It takes 42 muscles to frown, but just 5 to pull the trigger of any decent sniper rifle :)

ok so i guess it depends on you. What do you want. I'll give a good example:
I want a laptop for its:
1.Battery Time/Power
2.Hard Drive Space(80 gigs is good enough)
3.Possibilities
4.Programs(Micorsoft Office, Photoshop, etc.)
5.Sleekness
6.Portability/Weight
7.Processor Speed(IBMs are amazing)
8.Bluetooth Capability(A good laptop should run on all routers)
9.Look&Feel(Macintosh's are easy to use and also look great)
^^Thats what i look for in a computer. I use a IBM THINKPAD(recommended). Its fast, sleek, lightweight, Fast, Its Hard Drive Space is great(80 gigs is all you need)
So i recommend an IBM, but here are also some great laptops:
1.IBM THINKPADS
2.DELL INSPIRON(great for students)
3.Hewlett-Packard(if anything goes wrong they have great support)
4.Alienware-Great for Gaming(RPGs such as diablo)
those top the list. I use an IBM Thinkpad T41p. Its a recommended buy! PM me if you need more help!

IBM Thinkpad T41p is like a $2700 computer. That is way too much. Very few people need one.
I think you should look at the Dell 8600 or Acer notebooks if you really want to be able to game.
But in all honesty, I think not being able to game should be a consequence you're willing to accept when shopping for notebooks. It usually takes away from battery life, adds weight, and/or raises the price a lot to get a laptop good for gaming.
