would you say its better to leave a laptop on, hibernated, on standby or turn it off when not in use.

Hibernate does not drain battery.

You can do anything then if the laptop is plugged in, because in most cases the battery will charge while it is on anyway.

hi i have a laptop and i leave it on all the time and nothing happens and the connection is good, but it's smart to turn it off at the end of the day to refresh the network and to keep the wireless connection good....the laptop goes into automatic hibernation if u leave it on for a while...my dad is a computer proagramer dude lol...he knows his stuff

how about the laptop overheating? I have had my laptop turn off 4 no reason cause of this?

Well, the overheating part is what you need to consider. Leaving it on draining power while being charge is fine. It depends on how the system is configured and built to produce a cerntain amount of heat and the system fans being able to release and cool off the machine.

I keep my laptop either on hibernation or on and when it is on hibernation its plugged.

Hibernation requires no power. It just allocates some of your memory to remember your last system state right before it hibernated. Occassionally, it is good to do a full shut down once in a while.
