if you apply as a senior, you need min 100 hrs of community service. if you apply as a junior, you need min 50 hrs of community service.

i have a question about nhs also... im a sophmore and in the end of last year i got a nhs certificate saying that i was in the top 20 scorers of my year. does this automatically put me in nhs, or is it just a certificate? if i apply, do i have an advantage?

THe average for when you apply in your juniro year, the overall average is what is looked at. THat must be over 85.
That top twenty certificate is only for freshman and sophmores. Its commending your high achievments. WHile sponsored by the Nhs it doesn't automatically put you into nhs. You must apply.

I think it is just a certificate and you might be invited to the Top 20 dinner. I would have to check up with MaMoNy. She would know for sure.

Just a tip to freshmen: try hard to get a good average your first year. Milk it for all it's worth. Because usually, it's the easiest year with the smallest workload. It's going to be harder to get a "stellar" average your subsequent years. It'll serve as a nice foundation grade. Good luck!

Another hint, Manage your time. I know it seems tough to do extra work on the weekend when you have just had a hard week at school, full of tests and projects. But how do you think that overload gets there? If you space out your work, you will never be overloaded. It took me two years of insanity to figure that one out.

the top 20 thing isn't related to nhs. haha i thought it was too, cuz i was in it freshman and sophomore year, so i figured hey score automatic acceptance! but no, you apply like everyone else. and NO there is no "advantage," you're not competiting w/ one another to get into NHS.

the 85 cutoff thing is DEAD serious cuz virtually everyone applying to nhs has an average just about higher than that. some people have like an 84.8 or something and..eh. i don't think we accepted them last year. but hey, if you're average isn't high enough by the end of your senior year, try to bring grades up junior year and apply then.

NHS is SUPER FUN ...and I'm sure it looks good on college apps and whatnot but if you really think about it, if you're one of those kids who are striving for Ivys, you can bet that a huge portion of the applicant pool for that school is gonna have NHS as one of their extracurriculars. so...yeah. try to have fun and make the best out of it. and don't stress out over applications, just LISTEN for announcements during the END of the school year and be sincere about what you give in.

Way to discourage them Mony :P LOL.

With a more dose of seriousness:

Check out your transcript average at the end of Sophomore year. Right there is the average you're looking for. That coveted 85 cumulative!

there use to be a website for NHs, but i think it's down. it's not exactly an informative website anyway, if you're looking for information. you better off just going to the NHS office and finding out information there.

you can apply for NHS either in Spring sophomore year, or Fall junior year. It doesn't really matter, the only thing that changes is the communitty service requirement. transcript-wise, they look at the overall average, which means it's your sophomore yr and freshman yr combined. so work hard!

once they have the applications, it should be announced. If not, just go check and ask in the NHS office.

Thanks, man! I try, yanno?

TYPO!!! lol..its fixed now.

Okay well..website. There was no website last year because the administration didn't put one up. So this year we received nothing. But the webmaster/vice president of computer services made one on geocities (not as fancy, i know, but its better than nothing)...but we're gonna transfere ALL the stuff there to an actual website once we start paying for it. The website WILL be useful (and cool, because there will be pictures and stuff!) and up and running before the end of the year. We'll give a link once the site is up.

And, also, if anyone ever has any NHS questions, feel free to ask here or PM me cuz ..I'm this year's president so I'll hopefully be able to answer anything you need to know.

In late May, early June. Remember you apply as a Sophomore or Junior to enter as a Junior or Senior.
