I think you need someone of authority to sign hours for you separately to get those hours.

No. For the regular school credits, of which you need 8 to graduate, you don't receive community service hours. For example, if you get a credit by donating a box to Africa, why would that get you hours? However, if you obtained a credit by participating in certain events that give their own hours, such as the March of Dimes, then you'd be able to get community service hours for that.

The soup kitchens do NOT count for hours. BETA doesn't tally the hours you do at soup kitchens. Think of it this way: attending the soup kitchens is something you're doing as a part of BETA, so that you can get credit as a BETA member, and consequently put that down on your future apps and forms, etc. BETA is a national school organization known for doing community works.

Besides, since you're not going to be helping the soup kitchens continuously (at least for BETA), there's not much of a point saying you got like 8 (or whichever arbitrary, small number) hours of service total.

However, if you volunteer at a soup kitchen on your own time, and not as a BETA member, then you can get your supervisor to verify your total hours and keep that for future college stuff.

The main point is that you will not receive community service hours for the activities that BETA requires you to do. Those are just "basic" things you have to do in order to gain or maintain membership. Also, if you're a sophomore like your profile states, you're not officially a member yet, because you gain official membership at the end of the year in June, when you'll be inducted...so in your case, it will be to gain membership.
