Millions of New Yorkers who bought personal computers could score $12 coupons or more as part of a massive antitrust settlement from Microsoft, headed by Bill Gates.
You will receive vouchers redeemable for cash after the purchase of a wide variety of software and computer hardware products. The value of the vouchers you will receive is based on the eligible Microsoft purchases that you made from May 18, 1994 through December 31, 2004:
- $12 for each Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Millennium operating system license
- $5 for each Microsoft MS-DOS, Windows 1.0 to 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional operating system license
- $5 for each Microsoft Office license
- $5 for each Microsoft Word license
- $5 for each Microsoft Excel license
Note: You may not make a claim for Microsoft software that was purchased for use on Apple computers or for Microsoft operating systems used on servers.

I got a letter saying mentioning about that but I was too lazy to hunt down my old licenses and I probably threw them out a long time ago.

Wow, what can I say...I regret downloading all those pirated versions of Windows over the years—I should've downloaded Linux instead.

Wait. So because Microsoft screwed the economy, violated laws, and made us waste all that time making Windows work, we get coupons. For Microsoft products.
Isn't this what we like to call a 'vicious cycle?'
