another question, is admission competive? I mean i think i justmade the cut off score, with an 83 by the end of first term, and 87 during second term, or is that anyone can join as long as they full-fill all the requirement?

Anyone can join as long as you fulfill the requirements. There's no limit to how many people can join BETA, from my understanding.

Yep, anyone can get in as long as they have the requirements. Don't forget about the essay too. In fact, we'd love for more people to join!
However, if I know you from outside BETA and know for a fact that you, say, falsified your hours or something, then admission will be denied.

ah I see, I'd loveto join beta but with my schedule it'd be impossible fo me to ever fulfill all thos holurs required.
I'll have to settle forNHS i guess. between swimming lessons, hw and a lab program at john jay college i barely fit in 70 hours tutoring. ah well. i'll attemppt , but chances are i won;'t make it. oh wells, lol... why does beta require so many hours, if you don't mind me asking?

BETA's motto is something to the tune of "Leading through Service to others." Needless to say, BETA values community service involvement by its members very highly. Furthermore, most of BETA's activities are geared towards community involvement outside of Tech. Hence they like to see their pledges and members are already committed to such endeavors.
Or something like that.

I see. I understand theircommitment to sevice and everytihng, but what if someone really and truly just wants to help out but they don't have the time to a much as others can?It kinda seems to defeat the purpose of community service, since your supposed to do it for the good of others not really just to get into some program so you'll look more meritable... I'd love to work in soup kitchens and that kind of thing but my parents will neve rlet me do that on my own...

This is more of an issue that has to resolved with Esong, I can only vouch for what's happened in the past. BETA is a national organization, and for it to remain a member, it must require standard qualifications of its members, so I can't see how you can just hang along with BETA.
That said, you could just "show up coincidentally" at every event BETA community service event.

On the application, it says that there is a citizenship requirement that needs to be checked off by the COSA. What exactly is that?

It means that you have handed in your SGO cards with the necessary credits. Bring the the application to your COSA.
