Dell is recalling notebook batteries due to a fire hazard. Expect the same from other notebook manufacturers. The culprit is Sony. What else can Sony screw up these days?

Oh, fun. I just pulled out my spare battery, and guess what-- its a lithium ion one, which probably means its getting recalled. Great.

There's been a trend towards battery recalls lately...

Nearly every battery you can think of is lithium based or nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH).

Thank you z2z007 :) and thank goodness that mine wasn't affected cuz I bought my dell after July 18 and my battery says Made in Korea. (Now that I put that i put the battery back in after checking, the battery latch won't go back all the way to its original place :veryangry: )

This isn't really related to the topic but a friend of mine gave me a great advice. Since laptops are like a heating machine, levitate your laptop so the bottoms get more air flow by putting books on the bottom edges. And never put it on thermally-insulating surfaces, such as a bed sheet. Hopefully this might prevent another dell laptop fire.

Yay, my laptop is in the clear. And very good, because I love my widescreen laptop very much.

Some explosions have occured while the dell computer was on standby. There is no way to protect against such a defect in a battery, except for not not having a battery in the laptop at all.
