Hi!, AmericasArmy.com is one of the best online FPS I've played in a while. Its a really cool game similar to CS but its more recentand more weapons. The US Army spent 6 Million into this game and it runs on the Quake 4 engine. Best of all its FREE!

Thoughts? Anyone play it? :(

this game was made by the united states army for people to train for the US army... they made it as realistic as possible, even the radius of grenade explosions... when you go into a recruiting office they'll ask for your rank in the game... like all things our government does, this has the hidden purpose of recruiting people once they turn 18

What's your username (AA/aaotracker/xfire)?

By the way, AA doesn't use the Unreal 3 engine (on which Quake 4 was built) -- it runs on the Unreal 2.5 engine. A license has been aquired for the U3 engine though it won't be used for the upcoming 2.7 update but most likely for version 3.0 which is a long way off.

America's Army is a recruitment tool and is not for any type of training. I doubt they ask for your honor level at the recruitment office. You're already there -- the game has served it's purpose.

As for the recruitment conspiracy, it's not true. Unless they've changed the User Agreement since the last time I've read it, no player is forced or required to do anything once they turn 18.

Americas Army is not just a requriment tool its also supposed 2 be an informational tool. The army also sold a version of the game for the consoles so they probably made some money.

No, not really. AA is more of a game. You can complete all the "training" in less than an hour. The medic training "lessons" you have to sit through are about 1/1000ths of the real thing. It's just a way of seperating the noobs from the rest -- you don't do the training = you don't get to get the full experience of the game. It also gets you familiar with the game as most of the training is just easy bs. Basic training qualification is enough to allow you access to some maps. AA 2.7 which is set to be released tomorrow features a "New 'Explore the Army' Instant Action Mode" where players can skip training and go straight to the gameplay.

It was created specifically for the army to learn from.

It was originally created as a recruiting tool -- "America's Army" is a game title. Other forms of the program probably have been used for actual training excercises, but those versions are not available to the public.

What? Do you have the actual 2.5GB installer ready to go? Did you install it? If not, you obviously have to do so before you can play.

The official AA site has a list of approved hosts for 2.7: http://www.americasarmy.com/downloads/

Most of them require waiting on a "line" or registration. The one I got it from (GameDAILY) doesn't -- make sure you use a download accelerator.

A lot has changed, not all necessarily for the better. If your PC meets the requirements and you've got some time to waste, check 2.7 out. If you've got anything other than a PC, forget about it.
