Hugo Chavez came to the General Assembly at the UN yesterday and stated a controversy, calling Bush a "devil" and mocking other things about him. This was obviously outragous and quite offending, but Bush still remains quite calm compared to how he reacted to the war on terror. Any opinions?

Well, Chavez wasn't threatening to destroy American. He just bashed the President. Seeing as this has been happening almost nonstop for the past five years, the President just blunts it off. If Chavez was making threats he might've gotten more of a reaction from the President.

Don't worry, the Bush administration is not going to get sidetracked with Venezuela. After all, Iran has more oil (and "Weapons of Mass Destruction"), so the great Bush Doctrine implies we'll be making a millitary stop there in the near future.
And also, Venezuela's major religion (Catholicism) is too similar to our own major religion, so that it would be a faux-pas of the Bush Regime to go remove Christian Dictators from power, when he can go remove a popularly elected muslim president, along with a fundamentalists regime for basically the same reasons.
Note the sarcasm, but its still not that far off from the truth.

No, Chavez isn't on the radar when it comes to US Foreign Policy right now. We haven't dealt with Venezuela for years. Chavez doesn't like our embargos on Cuba, so they don't like us, and we don't care for them (I think at one point we tried to assassinate him too, after all he is a dictator). We're not going to do anything because Chavez (in the view of the US Government) poses no threat and isn't do any of the bad things that normally causes us to intervene. If he's conducting genocide or whatnot, he's keeping it real quiet, and he isn't funding terrorism. So Venezuela is not a problem in the eyes of America.

Chavez didn't say anything worst then what John Stewart and other comedians and tv personalities say about Bush. Hugo Chavez may have the distinction of being the President of Venezuela and his statements might have been more frank but hes just another Bush basher

Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY) had it right. It is one thing for us to debate and disagree with our own President. After all, for better or worse, we elected him and he is our leader.
But it is another thing for someone to come into our home and denounce our leader. It's sort of like the bully who picks on your little brother. Only you are allowed to pick on him...
