The world is always going to have people like this, and it is nothing new. It's how society responds to these people that is important. Sending these kind of people to jail is an important part of fighting this kind of behavior.

Agreed. There's a blog, called Blogactive, that has apparently been 'outing' Foley for years. The sad thing is, he probably won't go to prison, but will be another McGreevey. These people have to learn that they can't get away from trouble by coming out and saying, "I am a gay american," and claiming that they were tortured in the closet.

You cannot compare Jim McGreevey (if that's how you spell his name) to Foley. The former came out and said he was gay and that he had an affair with an adult man. The latter on the other hand, exchanged vivid emails with a page who was a minor. In order to be elligible for the page program, you have to be a junior in your high school years. These are two different situations and thus cannot be compared. Althought they are both gay that is a different discussion.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not comparing the two situations. What Foley did is clearly more wrong.

To sum it up Foley probably ended his own political career, and will live in shame... But like everyone else caught in a scandal or in the media, he probably will write a book where it will be "Barnes and Nobles' bestseller" or New York Times Bestseller"... This is how the world works today, Welcome to the 21st Century...

P.S.: It is the 21st century right?

Yes it is the 21st century. 1801-1900 is the nineteenth century. 1901-2000 is the twentieth century and 2001-2099 is the 21st.

Foley most likely just caused the House of Representatives to be taken over by Democrats in the upcoming elections.

I think if Foley's anything, he's stupid. He shot his own political career. Was this like, planned sabotage or something?

McGreevey's a whole other issue. I don't hold it against McGreevey that he is a gay American, not at all. What bothers me about him is that (according to his autobiography), he's been involved in extramarital affairs, missed the birth of his own child because he was spending time with a lover. You can't come out and cover that kind of stuff by saying "I'm gay." He put his lover into a position of office, even though the guy had no experience at all. He was just an unfit politician and father, it doesn't matter that he's gay.

Foley did ruin his career. He has reisgned, and his congressional district is now open to attack (and will likely to be seized by Democrats). However, the Democrats are already expected to win control of the House. Most people have been expecting it. This is just one more problem Republicans have to face in hopes of minimizing the Democratic takeover.

Concerning Foley, I did like how the story leaked, first checking into rehab for alcoholism, and then announcing he is gay and was molested by the clergy when he was 13-15.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

The House of Representatives will definately fall to the Democrats because of this. The Democrats were probably going to win anway, but now they definately will.

In the world of politics, there is no definite.

We shall see if the electorate remembers this in a month's time.

True, nothing is finite in the world of politics until the votes are counted.

Thats what Representative Rahm Emmanuel (D-ILL) keeps on saying. He repeatedy wishes that the Elections were sooner than five weeks away.

I mean I know the NY Post is garbage but the retartedness of blaming the democrats for any of this is insane

Well I think that might be somewhat true, just a bit.

Personally, I doubt that not ONE democrat heard about this before. Maybe they really never heard of it, but in the event that the word got out even to one Democrat, it could have been kept a secret until now because it's so close to the election time. This is the kind of thing that really turn an election around...

Well, the NY Post is one of the nations leading conservative newspublications. If you indulge in their opinions sections every so often, you'll find enlightening views courtesy of the Republican Party. I'm just making the point that its not entierly unexpected

I'm sure some Democrats knew about Foley. It was widely known that he was gay, but Foley's allies were able to keep that secret private for some time, even though most members knew. However, concerning the page scandal, the page who revealed the conversations is a Republican college student campaigning for the Republican candidate for governor in Oklahoma (I believe, I forget which state). I think more of it might have had to deal with that perhaps he had kept in contact with other pages when he left the program, and there were others who had dealt with Foley, which then perhaps encouraged him to come out and go public. He is only one witness against Foley, so its possible that he was encouraged to break the story, perhaps because he's out of the program or whatnot. I'm sure there is much that hasn't been made clear yet.

Though apparently, based on preliminary research done on the released conversations, Foley cannot be convicted of any wrongdoing under Florida law (they have to prove that there was solicitation or encourging the pages to do "sexual acts), even if he behaved in a disgusting manner unfit for a congressional representative.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

in that post article is also said that it was the democrats fault for stretching this out and that its gotten so big... but really they can shove it, because foley should have never done this in the first place, the republicans should accept the consquences of their party members actions... they should be blaming Foley not the democrats... and if Hastert just resigned this would blow over more quickly but apparently Hastert doesn't really care about his party's well being, not that I care for it either

If I was Hasert, I would be very pissed, because you were trying to be a good person, and then you get thrown into one of the biggest scandals of this century. However, NY Post, is so conservative I don't even read it anymore.
