Is it true that at the beginning of this school year you could have turned in your application for NHS? I thought that I had missed it last year b/c I didn't have the volunteer hours but a friend told me you could have turned it in this year. If that's so then i will be sad...

Well, it depends on the whether or not the leaders of NHS decided to accept new members in the fall. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. If you're a Junior, you can always apply in the Spring for senior year, and if you're a Senior, well sorry. If they did allow new members to join, its probably now way too late.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

No, no new members were accepted in the fall. It is customary for the deadline to be in the Summer.

I didn't have all my materials for the application but I was able to hand in the rest at the beginning of the school year. Only if you are a pending memeber, who didn't hand in a complete application in the spring, could you have handed it in at the beginning of the year.

If you really want to join, then you might as well apply in Spring so you can be a member in Senior year. It means a lot to some people, and it supposedly looks good if you join. But its not the end of the world if you decide to not be NHS. Its a very demanding club to belong to.

I don't think it's that demanding. There are events every now and then that are kind of draining, but it's certainly not the type of commitment where you have a lot of work to do every week or every day.

Well, it's your choice, really. But don't think you'll be getting any positions in NHS, ie. officer positions, because they generally give those out at the end of the year, which would be, in your case, the end of your junior year.

NHS is something you enjoy if you actually like doing things for your school. Otherwise, it's something you add onto your college list. Either way, I guess it works out.
