People donate money to these guys so they can wait in line, be the first to buy whatever it is that they are raising money for (the PS3 in this case), and destroy it in front of the people waiting in line outside.

I fail to see the point of this. Really, what do you gain from it?

It's just for fun. There doesn't have to be a point to everything.

What I meant is that I don't see the fun in it.

What a waste. Why not donate $600 to charity, rather than smash something up?

It's like asking why every-day people people blow $200 on a pair of sneakers instead of donating to charity. Don't get me wrong it would be nice, but people have a right to decide where their money goes.

Not quite...

I think you do gain something from buying sneakers compared to putting your money towards this. Then again, this is just my personal opinion.

Lastly, I don't think anyone was lecturing about how people should spend their money.

I think sneakers are fine, but it's a little outrageous when some people blow $200 on a pair of designer sneakers (and have 8 pairs, just because) made in sweatshops in comparison to spending $5 to $25 to get some enjoyment out of smashing up a PS3.

Right, it was just my part of my opinion in regards to Transparent Reality's response.

I can see what you're getting at, but it's really not the same as smashing up a PS3. Besides, the people that buy $200 sneakers all seem to treat them like gold. I've seen fist fights over sneaker scuffs and creases. :P

Maybe the analogy would be more effective if the person set the sneakers ablaze.

i think its awesome.... people have waited ages to get a PS3 and have counted down the hours.... they're waited online and even still most fanatics cant get one... they have to pay thousands just for a reservation ticket for one.... and then some guy gets in there before everyone and smashes it in front of their faces... beautiful.... beautiful....

I'm not comparing sneakers vs. a PS3, but rather making a statement of how money that could have been donated to charity is being wasted on other things much more costly than a PS3-smashing.

The site calls it a "social experiment" but it's more of an "I'm-bored-let's-ruin-some-lives" kind of thing :P

Eh, well, my statement isn't really worth debating over. What's important is to remember never to get on Endocrine's bad side. Scary sadist person!

Anyone want to donate money to me so I can get a nikon speedlight? :)

There have been fights over the PS3 to. A man got shot over one. I think the wii will be cooler. Those nintendo fanboys will be crushed

lmao, its not that i enjoy seeing people in pain or anything, i just would like to see the PS3 smashed as i think its really pathetic that they wait on lines to be the first ones to get it and pay thousands for it... its funny to see them upset about something as pathetic as a PS3

the people on line arent having their hearts broken. They are probably luaghing at the idiot who spent 4 days and nights, and like 600 dollars just so that he could entertain them whilst they wait.

Might as well laugh at themselves then because they were waiting right there with them. The only difference is that they're still waiting on line and are PS3-less. The money wasn't theirs and from what I got from the end of the video, they got a 2nd one with their own money.

now thats lame... not entertaining or funny at all... everyone has a wii who wanted to start... there were millions made so people weren't all anxious and weren't paying over $1000 for it...

destroying something thats common and that people aren't pathetically desperate for just isn't the same as destroying a PS3
