My roommate has a PS3 here in my room, but we have a small 14 inch screen TV. The graphics don't look like anything special. However, one of our friends has a pretty nice HD Flat panel TV, and it makes the graphics look a whole lot better. Some of the games are even formatted for large screens, like its near impossible to read the options or menu in Fight Night Round 3 on ours TV, even if you stick your face right up to the screen. It was slightly disappointing, but you can up the quality by not using the basic AV cables, instead using component or S-Video, and of course if you have a HDTV, get the HD cables.

Well, whatever your expectations are for PS3 graphics, they will not be met on a regular TV. It just doesn't look that good.

Its rather weak that the Wii doesn't have HD capabilities, its a shame because the graphics are good, and the gameplay is better on a larger screen (that would normally mean HD), but it only has normal AV outputs. Its max is 480i, pretty pathetic.

There is a considerable difference in the graphics. It depends on the game but some of them are comparable to PS2 games. The textures look grainy and unpolished.

I'm not sure, I've only played xbox 360 on an HDTV, so I can't honestly compare. Also, because the graphics cards are different, and I think the 360 was formatted to work better on non-HDTV's. The PS3 was really designed to mainly work with HDTV's.

I play my xbox 360 on a regular LCD tv. While it it doesn't look as good as an HDTV picture the graphics still look good.

The 360 was also meant for the newer tvs (LCD, HiDef, you get the point) but on regular tvs the graphics seem a bit downgraded... This goes the same for the PS3 an Wii (Not so sure about the Wii).

The Wii can only support 480p, so don't bother hooking it up to a HDTV.

480P will look fine on an HDTV

When I had my xbox and hdtv hooked up back at college via component, people thought an xbox 360 was hooked up.

You might get some stuff that looks like blurred jaggies, but it's not a big deal.

DVD's look great on hdtv at 480P....not too many people are really complaining.

But of course hd-dvd and blu-ray are a world apart from edtv...

Also, apparently the PS3 makes ps2 games look like !@#$ when it emulates them or whatever it does via backwards compatibility

Backwards compatibility never does anything special to the graphics of PS2 games, after all they were designed for a different system, with different (and ancient) limitations. Backwards compatibility is only nice for those of us who sold our PS2's while waiting to get for a PS3, its just an added bonus. The same thing was true with using PlayStation games on a PS2, all the better systems can do is get the games to load faster.

Can the PS3 play PS1 games?

Oh Yeah theres a store in Long Island that still has PS3 but like 1 or 2 of 'em, they're selling them for around $900... I think the price is kinda too high, any thoughts?

Yes, the PS3 can play PS1 games, but as always there are some compatibility issues, but normally it works fine.

If people want the 20 GB PS3, its much easier to find than the 60 GB, which has been sold out since the beginning. Depending where you go, its possible to still get a PS3, and the 20 GB isn't as bad as many people made it sound in the months before launch.

Xbox 360 is a better system, and it's backwards compatability system upscales the games along with adding anti-aliasing. Which makes them look nicer than their original console counterparts.

Also, the thing about the PS3 is that it is (or was? I haven't kept up to date on this) making the PS2 games look worse than if an actual PS2 was rendering the game.

Wii works fine with old televisions. I have one that my parents bought 7 years ago, and the Wii was working nicely.

I just dont know why people bother with the PS3.
