Definitely not a cdplayer. I have heard bad things about the zune. Ipods are always good but, like you have already found it, are often the targets of robbers.

Get a phone with a MP3, and memory card compatible so you can store alot of songs.
I have the sony ericsson W810i, works great as a phone AND a MP3, sound quality is awesome.
I live in like the worst part of the neighborhood and I was walking home at like 12 30 AM after traveling home from the concert and I was robbed, probably because the earbuds were black unlike ipod's white visible ones.

I believe the white ipod earbuds are more likely to be stolen compared to their counterparts.

Personally, I like the players made by creative and I still like the nano.

The Sandisks and Creative MP3s have all gotten high ratings, iPods also have gotten high ratings but I prefer the Sandisks and Creative MP3s. As for the Zune and cd players- not really great. And as for the mp3reedom I'm not so sure...

If you want something small and feature filled the creative zen v plus is great. This tiny player even supports video.

I have a CD/MP3 player. I seem really out of date, but I'm not at any risk of getting robbed of it since no one really wants a CD player anymore... Well, I dont even know if Sony sells it anymore but i can hold up to 500 songs on a disk, so its good.

Sony CD players are still expensive around $80 last time i check. maybe its because no one is buying them. :P
But I would recommend you just to get a mp3/phone so you don't need to carry that many electronic devices around.

The less you carry, the less you can lose. (or get robbed for)

Buying a new phone when its not part of signing a cell phone plan gets really expensive. The way I see it, you can get a phone/mp3 player combination that has limited storage for the same price of a decent sized mp3 player. If you're really in the market for an mp3 player, I think it's better to get a mp3 player stand alone, not a combination device.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

Like T-Mobile and Cingular, you can remove the SIM cards and place it in the new phone.
You can go to your original retailer and see if he/she can give you a discount on a 'new' phone you would want to get.

And the only thing I can think of thats for having a cell + MP3 in one is that they have a limited amount of memory (storage).
I have a 4GB memory card in my phone (sony ericsson W810i) and it hold alot of songs + pictures, and other files. It basically enables you to store anything you want on it, just like a flash drive.

If your so confused about it, just build your own, it is relitivly easy and you dont have to worry about all the limitations that the big companies give you.

Get a Creative. iPods are definately good players but overrated. Creative can give you the most out of your money :)

whatever you do, don't get creative... not a superb company there...

I got the original zen micro, and though I liked it a problem occurred... they poorly constructed the MP3 player so that after a while the headphone jack disconnects from the circuit board so eventually you dont hear anything... this happened to mine, happened to mine friends and to almost all others... i'm going to solder the jack back on... but really... its not worth your trouble... this experience made me realize, that no matter what everyone says... "oh no way, the blah blah player is so much better than the iPod", there is a reason its not doing better... the iPod is a quality device and is widely used for a reason.... it doesn't have widespread defects, it has a nice interface and great functioning... another thing with the zen micro is that my dad complains about with his zen photo that as soon as you highlight an album or something it with select it quickly without having you click... and also another reason not to get creative... my zen micro, they tried to copy the iPod's locking functioning with a switch but ha, the lock switch slides off in your pocket and it turns on...

iPod imitations all say they are better, but in reality they aren't and there is always a reason they are not on top... because if they really were better, slowly and surely, they would indeed rise to the top
