It could be the stupid wireless software that comes with the manufacturer. I would reinstall the wireless card driver from the manufacturer's website and use it to set the utility to let "windows manage the connection." The Wireless Zero Configuration handles the wireless card better and is less prone to problems.

Then just don't answer, which you didn't even do anyway.

I realized I was missing software, just like Z2z said. I downloaded the driver off the manufacturer's site, and everything is up and running!

Thanks z2z007.

BTW, it was more than enough info, that how z2z007 answered my problems.

I guess z is great at dealing with super ambiguous problems. 'It doesn't work' doesn't qualify as enough info, actually. Next time, at the very least: state what OS you're running on. That's kind of, you know - basic.

For future reference, there are several ways to set up a LAN connection, depending on how your network is set up. One of the easiest is to run 'New Network Connection' wizard (I hate wizards, but this one is fine) in Network Connections. In the case of a WiFi adapter, you could enable Wireless Zero (assuming you're under XP/2003/Vista) which tends to work most of the time. I tend to shy away from vendor-specific software if windows can handle it without extra software.

I agree with Transparent and that's basically what I recommended. As for how I answered NickC's question, I assumed that was the problem because that is the most common case.

I hate using any wizard, they treat you like dummies most of the time and they dont seem to work well either.
