Well the fact that 95% of us all behave like angels in school ( In school people, not outside  ) Security isnt a big issue.

Now let me add some input on teachers carrying guns - Teachers, are to teach, not to replace security - if a teacher feels unsafe - why are they there (as many has mentioned)?

If students feel safe enough to enter school - so should teachers - what makes them so different from us, besides age?

I'm wondering, since when does danger "come with the territory" as it were? Why are people shrugging off the idea of a teacher being killed because they should be able to deal with kids? Maybe teaching is your calling but being a warden or disciplinarian isn't, y'know? And don't even suggest that a teacher change professions.

I think they should be given the right to carry a gun. The second amendment after all says the government will not infringe on our right to bear arms. Obviously you need to teach them proper gun use and not display it to the students, but otherwise there is no reason you shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun.

The second amendment says government should not infringe on our right to bear arms, and we also have a right to free speech and say anything we want but we don't do that.. Teachers should have no reason to carry arms. Parents send their children to Tech because they believe it is a good school and not where teachers must have a pistol or glock loaded on them.

I think it is important to distinguish between "teachers" and "teachers at Tech" in the discussions. In NYC, a police response to an incident would be very fast whereas a police response in a remote rural school may be very different.

I support the general right to bear arms but with such a right comes a great deal of responsibility not only in the use (and restraint) of the firearm but in the ability to safeguard the weapon should an incident occur. Law enforecemnt official are trained in a variety of non-lethal martial techniques as well as being armed with a baton for non-life threatening scenarios.

It should be noted that official DOE policy requires anyone with a firearm to check the weapon upon entering the building unless it is a law enforcement official on official business. Police officers working as substitutes may not carry their firearm since they are not on official business.

The amendments aren't absolute, meaning there are (as there should be) examples where these amendments don't apply. You know, as in, "No yelling Fire in a crowded theater, ace, or else we'll lock you in the slammer".

Wasn't there something where the rights to bear arms are only for licensed citizens, and only when it's in the confines of their homes or something? Or is that property laws?

Anyways, I too think that if anyone should be allowed to hold a gun, it's the security guards at Tech or in other schools. Sure, I don't know what it is they precisely do, but NickC, they're certainly not there for the scenery, otherwise they wouldn't even be there in the first place. I do not feel that teachers should be so concerned with a student's safety that they should have to bring arms to school- teachers are in school first and foremost to educate, not to defend. Besides, who's to say that teachers cannot cause incidents as well?

There are just too many sticky issues with guns, especially guns around non-adults. I do not trust EVERY teacher with a gun around students, and with a gun, even one single case can be tricky, and can work against the pro-gun argument. Let the security guards do their jobs, and let teachers do theirs.
It takes 42 muscles to frown, but just 5 to pull the trigger of any decent sniper rifle :)
