I can't let my dad read the Onion. Every time he somehow gets his hands on one he starts ranting about government and the United States. It takes my mother and I a while to convince him that it is satire and not based on real facts.

It wouldn't be the first time that The Onion was mistaken for a real newspaper. Many organizations of the Christian Right have cited it as a legitimate source, basically in an article about Harry Potter and teaching children witchcraft. Even though The Onion has contacted these groups about the fact its a fake paper, they still cite the stories.
Also, The Onion is the inspiration for Brooklyn Tech's satirical magazine, The Radish.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.
