Anyone else think that Palin is just McCain's feeble attempt to get Hillary's voters on his side?
If so, who would actually fall for that?

Nah only for the extreme feminists who only see the gender border.
It was one hell of a choice though, since she's probably the last person all the political analysts thought would be the VP choice.
It was just surprising.

She took attention away from Obama, thats good for McCain. Even if you vote for her, McCain gets the vote for President. The base is rattled up. I dont even hear Biden.

Sarah Palin is the fresh meat of the week, so everyone is interested in her. Namely because we people in the contiguous 48 states find her an anomaly, and giggle slightly at her accent and her quaint ways of gutting moose and shooting wolves from the air.

On the serious side, she is a political unknown, much like Barack Obama at the start of the primary last year. Even when Hillary was ahead in the polls, most of the media attention went to Barack. So this isn't really surprising. More importantly, it puts a lot of pressure on Sarah Palin to ensure she doesn't say anything stupid that makes either her or John McCain look bad. Nearly everyone agrees that picking Palin was a gamble, and she has a lot of chances to mess up. Then again, so does everyone else in this race.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

Latest polls show McCain/Palin were able to jump a few percents after the Republican Convention. Palin is also recieving a lot of Hillary-supporter votes. But there are people who claim the need to see Palin in a debate.

Actually, while Sarah Palin has certainly raised his appeal among voters, it is not among Hillary voters, it is among the social conservatives who were very tepid about John McCain. You have to remember that John McCain was never a popular figure among the evangelical wing of the Republican Party (proof of this is in his pathetic 3rd place finish in the Iowa caucus behind the even more depressing Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee). In addition, conventions always produce a big bounce in the polls for the candidates, so this just might be people still in post-convention mode, its probably not a permanent shift in people's preferences. Meanwhile, Hillary's women voters are intrigued, but for the most part they find Sarah Palin unacceptable on many issues that they feel Hillary embodies.

I cannot wait to see Sarah Palin face Joe Biden, from what I've dug up on the net, Palin is a pretty good debater, and Joe Biden thrived in the many debates during the long Presidential primary, even if he never caught on as a candidate.

There seem to be many misconceptions about Sarah Palin and feminists.

For the record, we (feminists) generally support candidates who hold our ideals regardless of their sex. Now, together, Palin and McCain are like the anti-feminists. He doesn't support equal pay, and they are both anti-choice. She is the complete opposite of Clinton, and any educated voter, Clinton supporter or not, can plainly see that and wouldn't vote for her just because she has boobies.

This is exactly what I think, and as of now it seems a lot of people are falling for it. This really annoys me because it shifts the female vote away from important issues and more towards "Hey look, there's a female VP which means women have power which means I should vote for McCain!". People don't seem to realize that if they got elected, and something were to happen to McCain, then Palin would be the next president, and I really don't see how that would work out. At all.

After Hillary came out, I feel McCain is just using Palin as a political tool. One of the major flaws in democracy is that the masses can be easily swayed. Here you have an old war veteran, who twists the truth in almost every statement and doesn't necessarily relate to the people. OBama, on the other hand, may be inexperienced but he attracts attention. Americans are interested in people they can relate to. It's also a shame that the masses are blinded by the media. Let's face it, the majority of voters in america scarcely take into account the issues being discussed. Rather than the issues, they see a popularity battle. It's a shame how the early patriotism of America resulted to this. Anybody, feel free to agree or disagree, the blunt of this after all is my opinion.
You can't expect to do everything, but there is everything to be expected.

I feel that it was certainly part of the calculation that John McCain made in picking a running mate. He probably believed that Hillary Clinton supporters still felt raw after the DNC when Barack Obama did not pick her as his running mate. Remember, Barack waited until the Saturday before the convention to announce Joe Biden. So I think McCain saw an opening to attack and bring women still dissatisfied with Barack Obama into his camp. It was political calculation picking a women, though it was something else picking Sarah Palin. Perhaps against popular perception, there are quite a lot of Republican women that are in government, the most obvious having been Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. But Sarah Palin has the social conservative credentials to rally the Republican base that wasn't excited about McCain. If you look at the polls now, its clear that the female enthusiasm about the McCain-Palin ticket was very fleeting. What has stuck is the evangelical support and enthusiasm. The social conservatives need to be behind the Republican in order for them to win, and now they have a shot, because John McCain had no chance if the social conservatives were not actively working on his campaign. So I really think Palin was doing more for McCain on the social conservative side than trying to get women. Had McCain been serious about really making a battle for women, I think Condi Rice would've been the choice.

McCain / Palin = Unstable / Unable

Don't really like the Obama / Biden combination too much either.

They'd better have other issues that we can vote on! Otherwise, I ain't going to be having a terribly happy birthday.
