FAQ

What is Key Club?
For those who do not have any idea as to what Key Club is, we do NOT make keys. The Key in Key Club stands for Kiwanis Educates Youth. In fact, Key Club is an international student-led organization. Key Club provides its members with opportunities to provide service, to build character and to develop leadership. The goal of Key Club is to develop capable, caring and competent leaders through service opportunities. The Brooklyn Tech Key Club has reached a staggering amount of members, at over 130 members in the past year. Our club continues to help members to develop several important core values that can carry them throughout the rest of their lives -- leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness. Caring is our way of life.
The Brooklyn Technical High School Key Club is proud to have won the Outstanding Club Award out of all the clubs in the state of New York.

In the past, many people have agreed that children do not only hold the key to success but the key to the future. As Key Clubbers, we couldn't agree more. Although we are only high school students, the members of Key Club are already building their future. By serving our school, our home and most importantly, our community, Key Club members have impacted the near future in the most positive ways. Our club has helped and will continue to shape future leaders by upholding the Objects of Key Club International.

How many credits will being a member of Key Club get me?
If you're active in the club and you complete everything required than you will get 4 club credits per term or a total of 8 per year.

Who is the club mascot?
A very cool beaver. B)

What are the benefits of being in Key Club?
The benefits are as follows: Only 1 or 2 meetings per month. You get club credits. You obtain volunteer hours through various events. You also get to become friends with A LOT of people. Oh, and you get really cool key club shirts.(Pic attached below)

What are the requirements for obtaining credits for Key Club?
Key Club credit is based on a point system. Each event is worth X amount of points. Usually something like an hour long walk for charity is worth around 15-20 points.
You need a total of 100 points per semester to get club credit, so between 170-200 is a good amount to shoot for by the end of the year.

How can I earn key club points?
You could earn key club points through events such as sales, fundraisers, wearing your key club shirt, going to charities, etc. Also, you get 1 point for every dollar that you donate to a charity.

Are there any dues that I need to pay in Key Club?
Yes there's a $14 fee, the majority of it is used for the international organization.

Great! How do I sign up for Key Club?
In order to sign up for Key Club you need to email your name, OSIS #, email address, and phone # to bths.kc@gmail.com.
Also, there are sometimes membership drives during lunch in the center section. You could sign up than.

Who do I contact if I want to know more about Key Club or if I have any other questions?
Feel free to post here, PM me, or contact a board member. Their info is available at http://thetechkey.t35.com/contact.html

When is the first meeting?
The first meeting is September 29th, 2008 in the teachers cafeteria or Auditorium at 3 PM.

Sorry I got that wrong on the other thread. I'm pretty sure an official Key Club member would know better than me.

oh that sucks, when do we pay, is it ok if we go to the first meeting to see if we like it or not and not pay yet? Also, if we don't attend any of the weekend volunteering and only attended things during club hours, how much credit will we receive then?

Yep it's fine. There's random things like membership drives and wear your club shirt to school days. 2 weeks of the membership drive will get you 50 points, and things like wearing your club shirt to school get another 5 pts. It's pretty easy to accumulate points even if you don't like to volunteer outside of school much.

Wasn't it 12 last year and I believe a portion of it goes toward club funding and the whole $14 doesnt go to Key International?

Hey guys, this was for last years Key Club, and I haven't talked with Rodney about how things are now. I'll update this when I have the time, unless someone else wants to make another FAQ.

P.S. Grey shirt was 08-09'

I've asked a staff member for some new pictures, I'll put them up as soon as I get them.
