Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 8th, 2008.

The Peer Tutoring Club of NHS will begin meeting as of Wednesday, October 8th, 2008.
- Once again, the meetings are Mondays (5N7 w/ Passarelli) and Wednesdays (5E8 w/ Hoftyzer) during 10th period.
- Furthermore, attendence at 50% or greater of the meetings is required. If you are only able to attend one meeting on one day per week, you must attend all the meetings for that selected day. If you miss one meeting of that day, a make-up must be done by going once on the other day. Failure to meet these requirements will lead to no credit being given, for NHS or for SGO.

Miscellaneous Things:
- Junior Chairperson Applications should be already up or up shortly on www.btnhs.org. Juniors who wish to apply must have a completed form given in by a date to be determined (to be updated as soon as I receive.). Afterwards, there may or may not be a scheduled 1 on 1 interview (dependent on time constraints) from which the Junior Chairperson shall be chosen and announced during the Induction in November. If there are no interviews conducted, selection will be based on effort given to the club and/or other unmentioned guidelines.
- The Peer Tutoring Club could use some advertisements. As such, there is a call going out for those who wish to create poster designs advertising the Peer Tutoring Club. These advertisement designs will be due the second week of meetings (specifically by October 15th).
- Recruit your friends! Spread word about the club. There's no point to having a club with tutorers but no one to tutor. Plus, SGO credit is given to non-members that attend 50% of the meetings as a tutoree or tutorer.

Do you need to be in NHS to join the tutoring club?

You don't have to be. If you go in to tutor other kids for a few times then you can get credit for it. You can drop by to receive tutoring anytime. You just have to sign your name on the attendance sheet.

Do you have to be really good at that subject to tutor? I know I wouldn't want some random person with a 60 avg to tutor me if i needed any tutoring..

We find out the strengths of our tutors and what they are good at before we ask them to tutor fellow peers.
Plus since NHS has that average requirement, our members are guaranteed not to be the dumbest bunch :)

Oh. But I would still be kinda embarrased if a student who needed tutoring came in and asked me for help and I didn't know how to answer the question.. =/

I believe you get credit for being in NHS (separate) as well as getting credit for being in the tutoring club? I think that's how it works.

But do you have to be in NHS to join the tutoring club? Like go through the application filling process for NHS and being accepted?

Nobody knows everything.

Even us teachers occassionally get stumped by homework questions.

Not me, of course... B) But some of us...

LOL. i think you should have at least finished an AP course for a subject to tutor peers. I want to tutor in chemistry because I'm doing pretty good in it but I dont think I'm ready because in my chemistry class Im just doing very simple regents questions compared to the other chemistry classes which might be doing "more than regents" work.

lol That's quite funny because the day of Career Day I overheard a few kids arguing what the capital of India was. Some people were like "Mumbai" and "Dubai" and people started arguing that one of those was the capital of the emirates - not India.
I guess both parties were wrong in some way =P

And you had to check! Doubted yourself?

So you only tutor regents level. Or you ask someone for help if a question is too hard.

Students (generally, there are exceptions) learn best from other students who struggled like they did to understand the work.

I was about 95% certain. But Social Studies is not my forte, and I hate to give wrong information.
