Just wondering, what specifically do you listen to in the indie genre?

I don't think I can exactly describe my favorite music genre, except it would be generally categorized as electronic or experimental music. My favorites hands down are The Chemical Brothers and Rjd2. I also like some alternative rock, like Maroon 5 and OneRepublic.

Is Indie really a genre? I mean the term indie really only refers to what type of label a band is signed on and not the actual music they make. I guess same goes for the term "classic rock", both are only categories of rock, but not really genres...

Sorry, just me being very OCD, LOL.

Classic rock signifies a time period. Indie (technically) signifies independent labels. But now indie means a whole subculture. Personally, I despise the indie subculture.

I agree, Stephanie. In my post, I was going to mention that indie is just too broad (there's indie rock, indie rap, etc) that it's not actually a genre, but I wanted to see what spazzedup would say anyway. lol

And actually, I don't think it's really like saying you like classic rock. It's more like saying you like popular music...

Ugh, nothing is more annoying than seeing "anything besides country." Firstly, if you really listened to everything besides country, that means you'd listen to genres such as polka, Sub-Saharan African folk music, Gregorian chant, etc. Secondly, the only country you've (and probably most of today's generation) is either bubblegum pop country or you have preconceived notions that all country is about trucks and getting wasted and, for some god awful reason, corn fields and other ignorant stuff. Outlaw country is amazing and very thoughtful and heartful and I hate to see it get neglected because, "lol, it's cool to hate country!"

My taste in music is very refined :). I listen to a lot of pre-1990 Rock and occasionally country. My favorite groups/artists probably would be The Grateful Dead, The Doors and the Beatles. The rest of my music is really just all over the place. I have a few classic oldies/rock 'n' roll songs too.

For anyone into Judas Priest, the "Sad Wings of Destiny" album is really good. They started having a heavier sound, but still kept an enormous amount of emotion. I suggest listening to "The Ripper" or "Dream Deceiber".
