Hey,

I heard from one of my friends that the next OS for windows would be Windows 7! What is Windows 7 where did they get that name?

The name Windows 7 is nothing new. It was the code name for the next windows and Microsoft decided to make the code name the official name. I believe a pre-release version was released to developers.

It'll probably look a lot like Vista but with most of the major issues fixed.

7 doesn't sound as bad as Vista, though it is a totally arbitrary number...

Ohh, Is this is Windows Longhorn then they called it Vista instead?

Yeah... 7 is weird... we're going to have Windows 8, 9 , 10 , 11, 12.. until the numbers are finished lol

Windows 7 seems really low since we already had Windows 2000 before.

7 is not an arbitrary number. It's the seventh official release of Windows.

2000 was based on NT, not DOS.

He probably meant to put in Windows Me. The NT family pretty much paralleled the regular Windows family until Microsoft ditched DOS for good in Xp.

It was a lousy release after 98, also DOS based.

Alot of people are content with XP and have not changed to Vista, will they change to 7. Windows 7 is so uncreative name. My college laptop will probably be Vista.

I'm satisfied with xp. If it supports 64 bit then I might switch over depending on how intensive it is on a system.
