So the way that I interpret the above is that you still need 5 AP's with 3 or above grades on the exam PLUS a letter from the school saying you have mastered the language in order to remain qualified for APID. I really wonder what Tech will have the students who are affected do in this situation. If an IAS student had decided to fulfill one of their elective spaces with AP Italian, they might find it more difficult to get the 5 AP's needed for APID. Also, I wonder if Tech will even keep the AP Italian class if there is no longer an exam.

Tech will no longer have an AP Italian class. And there's plenty of APs to choose from, especially for IAS. And yep, you interpreted it correctly. You still need a total of 5 APs + a letter from the school. I don't think the AP diploma itself is really that useful unless you're planning on going into an international college/university. However, I guess it's a nice bonus anyways. :P

You need a world language. So the people who took Italian can not get APID, because its impossible to do 4 years of a language in 1 year.

Wronggg, read what I quoted like 2-3 posts ago from College Board. All you need is a letter from your school certifying that you're proficient in the language & you need to take another AP as an elective for a total of 5 APs.

While this is true, I really wonder if Tech will comply. After all, you will have only taken 3 years of Italian at the regents level, far below what most people would consider mastery that the College Board requires. That's part of the reason that if Tech accepted students into AP Italian for next year without fully realizing that the exam was ending, Tech should still teach the class, just to give these students the opportunity to demonstrate a higher proficiency.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

Tech won't have a choice but to comply since they won't be offering the class at Tech either way. 2009-2010 won't have ap Italian I believe.

Yes. The APID requires you to take one foreign language AP, and AP Chinese satisfies the requirement. It all depends if you're able to take the class/test or not.

Depending on your current course sequence and your qualifications for the course in question that you would like to take, that will determine your eligibility to enroll.

No.

If you want to take AP Chinese instead of AP Spanish you would have to speak to the the LOTE Assistant Principal. I believe he will test your comprehension prior to allowing you to be placed into the course.

Usually, you would have to take AP SPanish because it a) satisfies your major require, should you choose to pick IAS and get in and B) its next on your spanish sequence.

It is a universal policy that if you have accelerated credit from Middle school, you will continue in that language until completion of it, whether it be at the 3rd Level (regents ) or 4th level (AP).

Your PI is determined by your 2*AVG + 1* LOTE Average.

The major has only been around for 2 years so it is too early to tell how "difficult" it is to get in since the data and PIs for each class is different.

But I will say this, IAS has some of the most intelligent, hardworking, and involved students in it.
