My favorite director is Martin Scorsese. Native New Yorker from the Lower West Side who lived near the Bowery. He attended NYU.
I think he is one of the greatest American directors.

Works such as The Departed, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, Mean streets were amazing!

Especially his constant casting of De niro, Jodie Foster and Joe Pesci.

The Departed was a great movie. Martin Scorsese is definitely one of my favorite directors but I like to give props to the smaller name directors such as Gabriele Muccino who did Will Smith's Seven Pounds and Pursuit of Happyness.

Yeah I liked Pursuit of Happyness over 7 pounds.
For some reason, I liked 7 pounds but a part of me dislikes it. It did not capture me as much as The Pursuit of Happyness.

I forgot mention The Godfather Trilogy by Coppola

I like John Hughes, the guy who directed for Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and I also like Edgar Wright, for Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead. But I think Sidney Lumet, for Network, and Danny Boyle, for Slumdog Millionaire, are probably one of the best directors.

I liked Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the dead, the way they cut to each scene so rapidly added intensity to the film.

I don't have any real preferences for directors, but some great underrated movies are Nothing But the Truth, and Snow Angels.

I also like V for Vendetta, Forest Gump, and Fried Green Tomatoes.

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that popped into my head. :D
