So I've been watching this show, Whale Wars, on Animal Planet, lately. Basically, in case you haven't seen it before, it's about a group of environmental activists and animal right supporters aboard the MV Steve Irwin who are track down Japanese whaling ships that claim to be hunting whales for "research." Although I personally don't support what the Japanese do to animals, specially whales in this case, but when I watch the show, I can't feel empathetic or supportive or towards the crew of the MV Steve Irwin because of their violent tactics when confronting the Japanese whaling vessels, especially with their captain, Paul Watson who was known for his violent techniques including how he scuttled Icelandic ships. Anyway, for most of the show, a speed boat from the MV Steve Irwin follows the whaling vessels and attempts throwing stink bombs and using "prop foulers" in order to halt the ship's engines and in some cases they've even boarded the vessels, illegally; I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Watson decides to go sinking one these ships. As a defensive, the Japanese spray the boats and the people with high pressure hoses and sometimes throw metal objects at them to try and keep them away. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the show but I just wonder what other people feel about the show. Should the MV Steve Irwin's actions be justified because the Japanese doing "research" capturing or whales or is the MV Steve Irwin too violent?

What do you think?

I feel the same way about a lot of the tactics used by people who say they fight for peace.
I can understand a calm protest or maybe attempting to block someone from going somewhere, like trying to block the Japanese boats from getting to the whales, but when it gets to the point of attacking the opposition, aren't these people turning into what they're trying to stop?
Just a vicious cycle..
