I had my eyes set on the last iPod. It looked great.

Now Apple has come out with the new iPod. It uses the clickwheel technology from the iPod mini.

Specs-wise, it's great. It's now $300/20GB instead of $300/15GB. It also has a 12 hour battery life.

However, I don't know if the clickwheel technology is that great. Is it?

And am I the only one who sees the grey clickwheel as out of place with the rest of the iPod?

Nah, the clickwheel is good, Imagine how easy it is to control it with a thumb when all the controls are all centrally located in close proximity. I just hate the fact that it is so damn hard to replace a battery in an iPod and doing that has the risk of ruining your iPod for good. They should have a easy to remove Lithium-Ion battery.

Well, what if you hook up your iPod to your car's audio system and you want skip a song while driving.... It is easier to handle with the clickwheel.

I am planning on getting the Rio Carbon soon. Smaller than the iPod Mini, and an extra gigabyte for the same (or lesser) price.

I have the Rio Chiba... don't need or want too much space, so i got the 256mb.

The iPod Mini would be nice if there was a 1 gig or 2 gig model... :?

To me, it doesn't have the all-white iPod feel. For the same reason I don't like the gray clickwheel on the regular iPod.

Well...you have to admit a lot of the iPod hype is about aesthetics. It's certainly not value, because you should get a Create Jukebox Zen if it is.

Of course the design is important. However, I think the simplistic design of the iPod and the mini doesn't get compromised by the colors.

The Rio Carbon looks better and seems to be a better value. I don't really care for Apple Zen $417.
