Hey everyone.
I was wondering about how much influence does gaming have within our school. I am and have been a hardcore gamer for around 3 years and I take it really seriously, also been doing web design and professional video editing (and now stating to learn 3d design) but all centered around gaming.
I own a high-end PC and a 360 but game on the PC most of the time, I barely ever use my 360;
So I'm just wondering if there are any other hardcore gamers out there who take it and the gaming industry seriously. Personally it's where I'm heading to and hopefully this school will help me get in it.
And also I was curious about the "Computer gaming" club listed in the handbook. Didn't really hear anything else about it anywhere besides that list.
So yeah, cheers,
-Ed

Academically, I think the closest you'll get is via the CS major. There is some website development there. And if I'm not mistaken, some mild gaming is done in senior year (I can't recall if in C++ or Java) I seem to recall using a primitive API, but I may be recalling this completely incorrectly (hmm, just looked online and it does not say anything like this, I'll try to find my freshman orientation notes in that case so I wrote a ton of stuff down).

... Ok, yes, I found the notes. Accto to them, there is game design taught, but again it is not mentioned on the site, so I don't understand that, anyway, it also mentions C++, graphics, 3D animation and database plus web development (I seem to recall these last two being linked though), and an intro to C++. I don't have it written, but I believe these all happen senior year, with 3rd year dealing with intro to programming using Java, also involving hardware and networking, and web development. I think at the end of 3rd year they did an AP Java test.

There is probably some CS major who can confirm this tons better than my poor notes, so, again, this may be totally wrong info, plus, the CS teachers were talking lots about wanting to change a bunch of stuff, so I dunno if that was happening this year, next, or, if it was just totally wishful thinking that they got squashed by TPTB on.

The Computer Gaming club is a joke.
Don't waste your time playing Half Life on old computers with horrible mouses.
I've been playing counter strike competitively for over a year, closest I get to the industry. But i understand organizations and teams etc.

Yeah i've heard they're only allowed to use school things, no out side game systems. Which means you are limited to PC games, which really isn't fun. A lot of the good games weren't multi-platformed. ='( I really wanted to play Valkyrie Chronicles too bad its not on PC

I believe there's two gaming clubs, actually. I'm not sure, though.

However, once I witnessed a gathering of people with DS's and PSP's in teacher cafeteria. They all played something multiplayer, I think. Alsoooo, there was a 360 (Idr exactly) and everyone took turns playing SSB. And, it wasn't the PC gaming club, because I personally know the club advisor and he wasn't there.

And, as Chiyeung DjChi Lau already said, don't waste your time on it - join some good clubs instead.
