So um, yeah. I own a OptiPlex 745 desktop and I just reinstalled Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 because it wouldn't load because of an unmountable_boot_volume. It works perfectly fine except for one thing. IT DOESN'T DETECT A VIDEO CARD. $^#%#%@%^$#@$#@!!!

System Specs:
http://www.dell.com/...45techspecs.pdf

It runs ATI Radeon so I tried downloading and installing the drivers for it but every time I try to install, the same error occurs: Unable to find hardware so I'm guessing that my video card is gone. ._.

Is there any way to make the hardware manager detect the video card? Cause I tried a lot of ways excluding opening the inside of the computer and checking inside. Thanks a lot if you can help me with this issue... if not, thanks for trying? o.O

Side note: I did move the computer around as I tried to fix the unmountable boot so I'm guessing the video card got dislodged...?

Try opening yur computer and check .
my comp couldn't locate my sound card and i tried taking the tower apart (the big thing with drives and everything). it turned out the sound card was somehow snapped out. i snapped it back in and it works fine now (:

They don't. Either you're installing the incorrect drivers or there's a problem with the video card/it's disconnected.

Make sure to pull the electrical wire thing. Also make sure your card is locked into the slot..you can try to take it out give it a blow then put it back in, but make sure you hear the *click* sound.

If you're scared of that, let it cool down for like a few mins or so after yu pull out the plug? :D
That's what my mom always tells me when I try to microwave something -.-

Lol. Microwave. ♥
and and and don't blame me. I'm deathly afraid of being shocked to death. Oh... you little rascal -throws away fake electrocuting gum stick-

@solr, nope, just reinstalled Windows XP so everything should be working properly... along with the drivers for the card. Bah. Time to 'electrocute' myself inside the comp. Wish me luck D:

Hope I don't break anything... =_=

It not the current that kills you its the voltage. As long its NOT pluged in, there is not voltage or current, I am EE. Its ok. Make sure that you have no water on your skin. Try to open device manager and look for the ones that have an x or ! and update the drivers. Dont load the driver from another computer and write it to a USB/CD/External storage.

Okay, update. I opened it up and spent over one hour trying to find the video card. I didn't see anything that looked like ._. All I found was 3 ram cards, one free ram slot and some other open slots who's uses are unknown to me.

EDIT: I just read that the video card is built into the motherboard =_=
Now how the hell am I supposed to make my computer recognize the video card in the motherboard D:

Issue resolved. Had to install a driver for the INTEL EXPRESSCHIP FAMILY (I'm so stupid... but yay, at least looking inside the computer gave me a vague clue).

Closed. Just as I said, you downloaded the wrong drivers. (Common error though) :)
