After the hacking of some Chinese human rights activists, Google is threatening to leave China and take off the censors the Chinese government has asked Google to place on searches. Searches such as Democracy and Tiananmen Square will not be censored on Google if Google decides to leave China.

What are your takes on this?

I say boo to unnecessary censorship?

I don't know, it seems that Google is saying they either want more freedom from the Chinese government, meaning no more censorship, or China doesn't get Google at all. I really don't think China will stop it's censorship or even ease up on it since it'll uncover some bad history it's hidden from the people. So Google has to choose from either staying with the censorship, leaving China, or some kind of compromise... Either way, the outcome doesn't look pretty.

There is too much cash awaiting, so, it's hard to tell if this is just a sentimental burp going on, or, google really means it. On the same note, maybe because google is not getting as much of the share as quickly as they thought they would, they might be using this as an excuse to get out while looking like the good guys.

Google is greedy- if China lumps some cash over to them, they'll be happy and things will go on as they are now.
Sadly.
