<br style="page-break-before: auto;" clear="ALL"> II. Business

A. Alumni Homecoming

1. Will take place on April 24th

2. We need to decide on our job for this event

a. Coat check

b. Will also interact with the alumni to ask them about their experiences

3. Every club and team is invited to set up a booth and participate

a. Each participating group will receive $50 total

b. Would have to fill out a form to collect any funds through selling items

i. Teams are allowed to ask for sponsors

B. Avatar

1. We need to fill the auditorium

a. The event is open to everyone in the city

b. Every public school in the city already has 10 tickets to the event

2. We need to encourage and convince Tech students to attend and participate

a. Emphasize that for every finalist in the competition, there is an award

i. This event does not matter to most students

b. Distinguish between registering to attend the event versus registering to compete

i. We should have our own link to register on the school website and send out messages with the link

i. Such as the ones used for the Winter Jam and the Blast From the Past Dance

ii. Suggestion to have our own ticket for Tech students to attend to make it easier

c. An incentive for students to attend would increase attendance

i. Possibly offer service credit

i. Most students can fulfill their service requirements and don’t need the credit

ii. Possibly have an entertainer to increase likelihood of students to attend

i. Concern about having an entertainer is that we only have one day to have everything set up

· They will arrive only the day before the event because the company is based on California

ii. Possibly have the entertainer come in to perform on another day

· Students would have to have attended the event and prove their attendance to gain entrance to the concert

d. Alex and David are in charge of putting up posters to advertise this event

i. We should also send out messages

ii. All SGO Executive members should attend

iii. Reach out to UNSL and inform them about this event

C. SLT Facilities Subcommittee

1. Lockers

a. There is a new design for the front portion of the 3rd floor boys’ locker room

i. All of the lockers would be against the wall, instead of in columns

ii. This layout would be more chaotic, especially for when people enter the locker rooms

i. People would have to go through other boys changing to get to a locker

ii. Currently, there is a walkway for boys to reach a locker

iii. The difference in the number of lockers is not that significant, but slightly less than the current number of lockers in that section

b. Broken lockers near the showers will be removed because they are unusable

2. Library Project

a. Mr. Fanning recently visited the Bronx High School of Science’s library, which is about 1/3rd larger than our library

b. Students should have areas where they can do individual work

i. Carrels are small areas where a student is at a work station, with walls on either side meant for privacy and individual work

c. We need to think about the priorities of the library

i. What we need and want to see in it because we cannot include everything

d. Suggestion to convert the storage rooms into private rooms

III. COSA Notes

A. Daedalus will be used to select next year’s AP courses for the sophomores and juniors

1. Starting April 16th they will be able to register

B. Career Day is this Saturday, April 10th

C. Learning Environment Survey

1. Was given out on Friday, March 26th during 3rd period

2. Most teachers had their students fill out the survey

3. If students did not fill it out, then they will be handed another survey in prefect

4. As of Wednesday, 17% of parents filled out the survey

a. Last year, 16% of parents filled out the survey

b. Parents have the opportunity to win 4 iPads through a raffle

i. If 50% of the parents hand in the survey, then the raffle will take place

5. Surveys are handed in to the city, so we would not know which parents handed in the survey

D. LEAD refunds were mailed out a few weeks ago

1. Most people didn’t receive their checks

a. If the checks are not received by the end of this month, then everyone who paid but did not receive a refund must notify Mr. Williams

IV. Open Agenda

A. SGO Structure

1. There should be an event amount of work distributed across each position (equal caliber)

2. Suggestion that we should eliminate the position of class Parliamentarians and Treasurers

a. Suggestion to have a historian per class to record and take pictures

3. We need to continue our communication in a better manner

4. Re-think our positions and titles

a. Suggestion to have the leaders of the other branches of SGO not be part of the Executive Council

i. The leaders would be able to focus on their respective branches and face less pressure

ii. Would be recommended to attend the Executive Council meetings

i. Possibly have a liaison attend the meetings in their place instead

5. SGO newsletter has been done in the past and isn’t very effective

6. President and Vice President should have more active roles

V. Adjournment

Renovation must take place portions at a time. All the lockers will be gutted (including the small ones) and replaced with more useful ones.
