II. Business

A. Student Planners

1. Each constituency should give as much money as possible to the Alumni Foundation for purchasing next year’s planners

a. Planners cost approximately $25,000

2. We will set aside the money meant for the LEAD Conference for the student planners instead

a. All in favor of accommodating $3,500 for the planners

b. Marouf (SGO Treasurer) will draft up the letter

B. Morning Clean-Up

1. Students throw their garbage wherever they please in the mornings from the Grab-N-Go Breakfast program

2. One of the proposed options is to eliminate this program

a. If the amount of trash stays at this level, then the program will be discontinued

b. How would you measure the amount of trash throughout the building?

3. Students don’t like all of the options they receive in the Grab-N-Go Breakfast

a. Food Services is mandated to give milk, even if the students do not drink it

b. Students should have an option to put any items they do not wish to eat or drink in a clearly labeled bin

i. Suggestion for students to have the option of taking certain items, such as with the milk during lunch periods

c. To decrease the amount of garbage in the hallways, larger garbage bins should be placed in the classrooms so they can hold the bulky boxes from the program

4. Suggestion to have the Grab-N-Go Breakfast in bags instead of in boxes

a. Bags are messier, especially if the milk spills in the bag

5. Suggestion to have the program suspended for 1 month or 1 week

a. Resume it a little later

b. Bring the program back before the Advanced Placement (AP) exams (the last week of April)

c. If we see an improvement in the amount of trash in the hallways (a decrease in the amount of trash) by a certain date then the program will continue

i. Students would be forewarned of the consequences if the amount of trash doesn’t decrease

ii. Executive members can determine the “improvement”

iii. David (Communications Director) will write up an announcement

C. Boys Locker Room Renovations

1. There was a suggestion to push the renovations back to Regents week or by 3 weeks

a. We need to move forward with this project instead of postponing it further

2. Construction would take about 2 weeks and it would disrupt instruction

a. Boys Locker Room would still be used, although the area for construction would be closed down

b. Gym 1 is already losing instruction time because many of the AP exams will take place there

3. Our job is to make a recommendation but we do not have the final say

a. We made a unanimous decision to proceed as planned, without any postponing

D. NSBE Basketball Tournament

1. Council of Student Activities (CSA) Committee 3 is asking for 4 – 8 SGO members to help at the NSBE Basketball Tournament

a. Tournament is on Saturday, April 17th from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

b. Dania (CSA Coordinator) will send out an email to CSA, asking people to help out as well

E. Alumni Homecoming

1. There will be 2 shifts to work: 11:00 am – 1:30 pm and 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm

a. We need 4 people per shift in coat check

b. We need 4 people per shift at the SGO table

i. The people at the table are allowed to collect donations for student activities because of decreased funding for student activities over the years

F. May Election Process

1. The positions of President and Vice President per class will remain

a. All 3 class assemblies pertaining to the elections of these positions will be held after school on different days, by class

2. We still want to keep the positions of Parliamentarian, Treasurer and Secretary per grade level but we need to think of more defined roles for each of them

a. We want to bring back the class councils next year

i. 4 Coordinators of Student Activities (COSA’s) are not coming back

ii. Dedicated members were lost because class councils were discontinued

iii. Suggestion that the Student Assembly (SA) or CSA meetings break into class councils at the end of the meeting

i. Suggestion that only the Seniors and Juniors have their own separate class councils because they are the only classes with specific class-related events

· Seniors and Juniors would alternate their events each week

ii. Should the Freshman and Sophomores have separate councils or be combined into one?

· Suggestion that they have an upperclassmen as a student advisor to help them organize events and to go through the process of organization

· Suggestion that Leadership would serve as a class and a council for the Freshman and Sophomores and they would meet whenever needed to organize events

iv. Freshman and Sophomores need some kind of structure to prepare them for Junior and Senior Government

i. They need a foundation and guidance

ii. Could be assigned simple and general events to prepare them for planning future events

iii. Possibly do events such as the Spirit Games

v. We need an advisor for these “class council” meetings

b. Suggestion for each class Secretary to have a monthly e-letter for their respective class

i. Would also serve as the historian, attending SGO-related events

3. Question if CSA should be more grade-level based or mixed next year

4. We will release the application for President and Vice President per class only

a. The applications for the other positions will be released once the positions and roles are clearly defined

b. We need to define what “class councils” are
