Inspired by reading TIME Magazine's Top 100 Most Influential People in the World. My last project for this school year is to create something like TIME Magazine but for Brooklyn Tech. Tech's most influential people. Students and Teachers. I am using this thread as a nomination page for anyone who would like to nominate somebody. Please make it reasonable, the person has to have influence in the Tech community and has to be staff or a student. If you are nominating yourself, please ask yourself what you have contributed to the Tech community as a whole.

Nomination Information-
Name of Nominee:
Student or Staff:
Class of (if Student or Tech graduate):
Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher):
What he or she has done for the Tech community:

Thank you. Yes. Post your nominations here.
Edit. To add on.
I will be searching for all nominees. I will speak to them individually and compile a summary of what they have done for the Tech community.

Nomination Information-
Name of Nominee: Nicky Chen
Student or Staff: Student
Class of (if Student or Tech graduate): 2010
Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher): Senior President, Junior President, Freshman Leadership, Freshman Government - Assistant Treasurer, Red Cross Club - Founder/ President National Honors Society - Tours, School Safety Rep, SLT Facilities Rep., UNSL Rep., Red Cross Youth Group

What he or she has done for the Tech community: Nicky Chen has been an active student since his Freshman year. He participated in Student Government all four years at Tech and even rose to be a member of the Executive Council. A persistent and dedicated student, Nicky always voiced his opinion about any topic. Throughout his years at Tech, he remained an active member of his clubs and even reached out to help other clubs whenever they needed it. Within Student Government, Nicky Chen attended almost all the meetings and contributed viable information to the table. He is an amazing speaker and therefore allows his voice to be heard all across the room. Another profound quality that Nicky has is his tenacity. When he sets his mind on a goal, he will stop at nothing to complete it. Throughout this year you can see the different activities that he's participated in ranging from the library project to organizing events. He has constant meetings with Mr. Asher and Mr. Fanning discussing every issue possible and he stays on top of everything. If there is one influence student in this school, it is Nicky Chen.

Marc Williams
Staff
Class of 1990
AP of Student & Parent Engagement/ COSA
Starting out as an English Teacher in the mid 90s and returning to Tech after graduating in 1990, Mr. Williams has become the epitome of Student Life in the building. Since 1996, when he first became a COSA for the class of 2000, he has advocated for the interest of students for nearly a decade an a half. Til this day, this energy, influence, and enthusiasm is felt through the halls of Tech on a daily basis. Mr. Williams has not only guided us through our four years at Tech, he has transformed us to be mature adults ready to encounter the obstacles in the real world for the very first time. From inside the classroom to outside, he has made Tech students feel safe, motivated, and focused on school and extracurricular activities.

In the 2009-2010 school year, Mr. Williams became AP of Student and Parent Engagement. Aside from that, he is the producer of a hands-down performance of Sweeney Todd, our 2010 Spring Musical. He is the advisor of the Student Government Organization, all branches of it. Mr. Williams, and his tireless efforts brought Steve Harvey, James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver and even Channel 5 News to Tech. Whenever something special happens at Tech, without a doubt the first thing that comes to mind is...MR WILLIAMS. Without reserve, I nominate Marc Williams, to be the most influential staff member of Brooklyn Tech!

I'll just make a list:

  • Randy Asher
  • Dan Baldwin: the easily irascible UFT chapter chair is the foil to the principal
  • Matt Mandery '61, Achilles Perry '58, Mike Weiss '57: the triumvirate controlling Alumni Foundation programs (and money)
  • Marc Williams '90: most influential person to the student body
  • Crystal Bonds: don't underestimate the importance of the guidance department chair
  • Randall Barclay: AP of the department often most favored by the other powers that be

But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise

Name of Nominee: Mr. Williams

Student or Staff: Staff

Class of (if Student or Tech graduate): 1990

Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher): AP of Student & Parent Engagement/ COSA/ English Teacher/Morning Announcement Guru

What he or she has done for the Tech community:
Mr. Williams is the person to go to. Whether you have a question or want to say Hi to someone. He's the person you want chaperoning your trips and in charge of your school business. If you've done something to upset him, you've done something terribly wrong. Mr. Williams isn't against the rules but he's not one to ignore when something's not right. His morning announcements are something to look forward to everyday and there's only when an awkward silence when they don't come. Nobody does it better.

Does anyone really disagree with me? :-)

What he or she has done for the Tech community: Coordinated Major in the 2009-2010 School Year, coordinating the Michael Jackson segment of the 2010 Culture Show. Offered open-minded advice to anyone who needed it, advocate of mutual respect and debunking of social stereotypes.

I know this sounds pretentious...but oh well, let's see what happens.

I'd also second pretty much everyone else on this page xD

Nomination Information-
Name of Nominee: Christian Corrao
Student or Staff: Staff
Class of (if Student or Tech graduate):
Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher): Physics Teacher
What he or she has done for the Tech community: Mr. Corrao is a wonderful teacher who has succesfully taugh the freshman not only how to udnerstand physics but to love it. He has never given up on us even the the class average was low. He stays for tutoring everyday, is patient and goes out of his way to help us in anyway he can. Because of this we have beaten the juniors on every department test and everyone is confident that we will do well on the regents.
Most teachers can teach the subject but not everyone can make the students fall in love. Especially when it involves science and math. Everyone in my cluster loves physics. I was talking with my friends and we all unwillingly admitted that we randomly think about physics during our daily lives, whether it be in riding in a car thinking about what the centripital acceration is every time we come to a turn or calculating what frequency we need to go around the rim of a glass to make it "sing." It is obvious that he is passionate about what he does and that he cares about us. That is what makes us love him.

Name of Nominee: Dr. Horace Walcott
Student or Staff: Staff
Class of (if Student or Tech graduate):
Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher): Chemistry Teacher/ Mentor
What he or she has done for the Tech community: Provided life lesson stories, and has dedicated countless hours after school for the science olympiad team and research. I can say without a doubt he is amongst the most dedicated teachers at Tech and it takes one who spends a lot of time with him to truly know him outside the classroom. I think he's isn't appreciated enough for all the success he has brought Tech such as 2 intel semifinalist winners and NYCSEF 1st/2nd or 3rd place winners every single year. I really hope he gets considered and I hope this thread doesn't just turn into a popularity contest.

Well I was going to say Mr. Williams, Mr. Asher, Ms. Bonds, and yes even Juanita. But to add someone new I think Oladoyin Oladapo is one of the most influential students in Brooklyn Tech.
Name of Nominee: Oladoyin Oladapo
Student or Staff:Student
Class of (if Student or Tech graduate): Class of 2010
Position (ex: Club President, English Teacher): NHS Chairperson of Tours, Student Government Member, Yearbook Editor
What he or she has done for the Tech community: Olay, as commonly known, is a big asset to the Tech Community. She is involved in almost everything, whether it is hosting the Talent Show or putting finishing touches on the Yearbook. She was our resident singer for three years and is now running for prom queen. I think she is an awesome person. <3

And oh yea, I love Nicky too! =)
