II. Business

A. Grab & Go Breakfast

1. Guests from the Cafeteria came to speak about issues regarding Grab & Go Breakfast

a. Complaints are made about the large amount of garbage

i. Reason for this is because a lot of the students don’t know where the trash cans are to throw out their garbage

a) At the moment, there are 18 trash cans out on the floors

· They are taken back to the Cafeteria by 9:30am

§ Use to be 10:15am, but that’s too late since 4th period lunch starts at that time

§ Missing trash cans means less trash cans for the lunch periods

b) More garbage cans will be put on each floors (mostly at the center section)

· On the 1st floor, a trash can will be at each express elevator and on each side of the center section.

· On the 2nd-4th floors, there will be 4 trash cans

§ Will be put near the staircases

· On the 5th-6th floors, there will be 3 trash cans

§ Will also be put near the staircases

· A suggestion was made to place a trash can near the two express elevators on the 7th floor

ii. More employees will be picking up the garbage

iii. Visitor suggested to put breakfast into a bag instead of in the containers

a) The breakfast might get crushed, but there will be less garbage

b) A suggestion was made to make the bag clear

· So that students can see if they like the breakfast before they take it

iv. Students have been throwing food in the hallways

a) Probably because they don’t like some of the food that is offered

b) A survey was given out to the Executive Council

· We will choose the top 3 choices of Grab & Go Breakfast we like

§ That way there will be less food thrown around

· Will be given to Mr. Williams by Friday and from there given to Ms. Dilorenzo

· The results from the survey will not be made until the Fall

§ June is too short of a month to make changes

v. Students take breakfast for a certain thing and leave out the rest- making more garbage

a) A suggestion was to take cereal out of the bag and put it aside

· If students want it, they can take it

b) Another suggestion was to take milk out of the bag

· Milk has to be offered- says the DOE

§ Cereal doesn’t have to be offered

· Suggestion to have a box to put the milk in if students don’t want it

§ Middle & Elementary Schools do this

§ We can do this as well

vi. Decided to have a table for the breakfast items not wanted near the Grab & Go Breakfast cart

a) Students can take items from this table without swiping their ID

b. With Grab & Go Breakfast, the school serves 1300-1450 students

i. Without it, the school serves 300-450 students

c. Students should not take hot breakfast to class

d. If anyone has any comments or questions about the Grab & Go Breakfast, email Ms. Dilorenzo at FDiLorenzo@schools.nyc.gov

2. David (Junior President) will be making an announcement letting the student body know of the new changes being made to the Grab & Go Breakfast.

ii. Did not work this year

a) Decided to keep it for next year

ii. Should it be Carnival Week or Carnival Day?

a) Carnival Week

· Gives all the clubs a chance to fundraise

· However, a week would be too much to organize

· The hype would die by the end of the week

b) Carnival Day

· Would be much easier to organize

c) Decided to have it Carnival Day

iii. What date should it be?

a) Suggestion to have it in October (if Carnival Day is outside the school) or February (if Carnival Day is inside the school)

b) Other suggestions were to have it in January or April

c) Can’t have it in the 1st week of November

· Sports teams start practice at that time

§ They would be too busy to help organize a Carnival Day

· Also, the Faulty Volleyball Game is during that week

d) A comment was made that clubs & teams need more time to organize this day, so the date should be in the spring.

· Also, CSA cannot plan for this event in such a short period of time
