So after reading several summer school and failing-related topics, I figured I'd make one myself... Afterall, apparently an @ss-ton of us are gonna have to endure it!
Seeing as how this is my third and hopefully LAST summer of summer school, I figured I'd offer some advice.
Tips:
• Bring a water bottle with you everyday. EVERY. DAY.
Tech gets hot and if you don't have a class that takes place in a lab, then you're not gonna get AC... if you're lucky, you'll get some fans. Bringing a water bottle not only keeps you from dying, but drinking also brings some variety to the same thing you'll be doing during your class... Reading... Writing... Reading... Writing.
• Don't litter. SERIOUSLY.
Since it's the summer, there's less people working in Tech, which means less people to clean it up after us dirty little kids go through it. I'm serious guys, during the summer after my Sophomore year, I had gym. The locker rooms got nasty. NASTY. And the locker rooms aren't the only things that trash can accumulate in.
• Come to class everyday. NO ABSENCES.
At most, you might be able to get away with one missed day if you have a good excuse. It's not that hard to get to class and you really have to be trying to fail summer school if you fail it. Yes, there's gonna be some homework, but just get some of it done and make the teachers think you're putting in an effort.
• Try not to stick around Tech if you have no reason to be there.
Like I said, less people are around Tech. That includes the police. Tech does get a bad rep for the occasional muggings, but it's not that bad during the school year. During the summer though... People like to hang around the paths to the subway stations to pick off easy victims. It's not that bad, but better safe than sorry. I've never been mugged during my years in Tech, but the only time a group of people attempted something on me was during the summer.
• Chill out.
Alright, don't chill out too much. Get the work done and come in to go through whatever you need to get done. That's it. And it only lasts a little more than a month. It's definitely not that bad... So don't take it too seriously.
• Bring a pocket-sized snack.
Apparently fear of death by dehydration, exhaustion, and spontaneous brain implosions wasn't enough. There's no more lunch period in summer school, so bring something small you can eat between classes so you won't happily drop dead before having to write another few pages of stuff you don't really care about. Again, DON'T LITTER OR I MIGHT HURT YOU.
And that's all I can think of. If you have any summer school stories, post 'em!
Today is the first day, so I hope everyone has a good one. Fine, an okay one.

Yeah, losing that fat chunk of summer is a disappointment... We still do get a little less than a month of vacation, since the regular school year starts on September 8th, but... Yeah... There's no such thing as too much vacation time, but always such a thing as too little.
Oh man, last year I was almost a victim of a summer mugging twice.
The first time was by 3 guys. One of 'em asked for the time, I told them what it was, then they specifically asked me to check my cell phone, which is something I don't own. I noticed they were clearly trying to surround me, so I just shoved the guy in front of me out of my way, and fast-walked to the train station.
The second time was by a short kid. He was very, very clearly eyeballing my mp3 player. He was walking next to me, staring at it for a few seconds, then stopped in front of me and told me "Hey, someone over there is calling you!"
I just chuckled and kept walking.

Apparently lunch has been cut which shortens the day by half an hour... But they added a few minutes to each class.

Then try not to fail your classes so you don't have to go to summer school...?
