Has anyone else uninstalled weatherbug and had a problem? Because I downloaded AIM 5.5 and ended up with it - whenever I try to uninstall it, it kind of gets stuck somewhere at the end (after "are you sure you want to unistall me - i can save your life, etc") and I still haven't gotten rid of it.
"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow creeps into this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time. And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out out brief candle! Life is but a walking shadow, it is a poor player who struts and frets his hour on stage and then is heard no more, it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

While informative, weather bug happens to be spyware and lots of advertising. I can't tell you how many computers I've just seen it appear on.

Maybe adaware or spybot search and destroy can help.

Are you actually getting popups that say this or it is just showing up in the corner of your taskbar?

If you're not actually getting the popups,

Quote

WeatherBug does not monitor, collect data or 'spy' on its user base. If a software program is implying or reporting that WeatherBug is 'spyware', it is incorrect.

WeatherBug is incapable of tracking your overall web use or deciphering anything on your hard drive. WeatherBug has no functionality to determine what you were doing/where you were surfing before you opened your WeatherBug program - or where you go after using the WeatherBug.

With computer privacy a vital issue for so many people, we want to assure you that WeatherBug, in addition to being spyware-free, is committed to helping our millions of users understand how to remove spyware from their computers, if they desire to do so.

Spyware, as defined by CNET, generally refers to any technology that gathers personal information about your computer's configuration, your surfing/shopping habits - including information like Web sites you've visited, your IP address, and your computer's host name.

WeatherBug does none of these things. In addition, we require any software that is offered with WeatherBug to also be spyware-free.

In addition, while we, like MSN and a host of other free software, are supported by advertisers, we do not do have any way of knowing who the individual users are when we track clicks on our own pages.  The user is not required to put in their name when they register- we only need a zip code to find the closest weather station to their home.  The only reason we need to track clicks on pages is to determine if our server capabilities are getting too low and need to add new servers, which I’m sure you can understand.

You’ll also be happy to note that in v.6.0 due out in a few months, an Uninstall Wizard will be available.  I appreciate you clarifying on the page that we’re not spyware, but if there’s any way to have us removed from a page of software that we completely object to ourselves, we’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.  Your site actually has a lot of useful info.

Sincerely,

Jay Hoffman
Manager, WeatherBug Customer Support

Which means that it's not spyware and poses no security risk.

If it's just showing up in the corner of your taskbar with no popups then it's because the program left some registry files which you can clear out using this program.

BTW, Weather Watcher's a pretty good program, if you're having any other problems w/WeatherBug.

If you upgrade to a newer version of AIM, for the love of (insert religious figure here), do not install WeatherBug! It caused me nothing but a lot of problems, even more when I tried to uninstall, saying that doing so would put my life at risk in the event of a storm or something. Apparently, the WeatherBug thinks I live out in the boondocks in super rural America, where everyone bathes, urinates and drinks water from the same well and the only form of recreation is the community square dance. I get my weather from the Internet, TV or radio.

In order to fully cleanse my computer of WeatherBug's reign of terror, I had to run a system restore. >_< Basically I tried to delete it yet it somehow magically remained on my computer. Oh well, thank goodness I don't have to deal with it anymore.

System restore..oh man... I didn't install it with aim, it just came on automatically, and I've tried everything but can't delete it, so basically I've just disabled all its features and it stopped poppuping up and chirping at me.

Lol square dance! 8)

My brother installed Weatherbug on his laptop and then one day, I went on his computer, signed onto AIM, and clicked on Weatherbug to figure out what the weather would be outside, and i got this continuous pop-up of Weatherbug. It wouldn't stop, so I shut it down. I turned it back on and it was still there, popping up. My brother came and I'm not sure what he did, but he uninstalled Weatherbug and the pop-ups stopped. That experience was really weird.

That's because Weatherbug contains adware. Not as severe as spyware, but still quite annoying. I read somewhere they they removed the adware, but I doubt it.

When I got this weather program from installing AIM, I uninstalled it and it never came back. Not sure if it's WeatherBug, because uh it never came back.

You could attempt to uninstall it manually, By deleting all the files and this is the painful part going through the registry and deleting all of the entries that look like there from weather bug. I don't even know if that will work . I also remember some program that uninstalls things, don't know if that'll be of any use.
