In the e-mail that Mr. Williams sent us, there's something about the new SGO Card being a "discount card for 20 different vendors in the Tech area." Does anyone know what that's about?

I'm assuming that if we show the card to any of the 20 vendors, we just get a discount. I'm sure they'll put up a list of the stores or something sooner or later.

Yeah. I guess the discounts are worth the extra $5. Not to mention the fact that it's not an actual card and not paper...

Can anyone really explain what the SGO card is? I never got one last year and have no idea what it is or what it is for

It was to keep track of club credits. You would take it to your club adviser and he or she would sign off and then you would hand it in to 7C1. Last year, though, the clubs put in the credits electronically. (at least my club did)

By having the venue discounts included within the SGO card, it brought more value to the $10 that you donate to the school to ultimately fund school clubs and teams.

Blackmanor is right about the purpose of the SGO card that is used to keep track of club and team credits. Last year, it also gave 50% off the ticket price for several school wide events, including the shows.

Also, for your information, you need 4 cards (one from every school year), 32 club credits, and 50 hours to graduate.

From the way Tech kids spend money especially for food, Im sure in the long run, this card will pay off.

Is this new card barcoded so that students can scan to determine the balance of their club credits?

Does interning count for community service? Also, even if you didn't have any clubs, you still need to buy a card for every year??

And now that the cards are different, will a new one still work for my freshman year?

Are we going to get a list of the stores?
Also, I heard that YEA tried to this a few years ago, and a lot of the stores didn't own up to the discounts..

It depends on what it is. Some internships are community service based and that would make sense for your serving time to go towards your hours.

If you have an internship and you receive a stipend, then no.
If you get paid, then it isnt volunteering.

If we have a card from last year and didn't get it signed, can we still receive credits for that year if we hand it in signed upon entering school?
You can't expect to do everything, but there is everything to be expected.

I don't really understand so I hope someone can explain this to me. Thanks in Advance.
I'm going to be a senior next year and i already bought my SGO card for freshman year but I didn't buy my SGO cards for sophmore and junior year (and obviously senior.) Am I going to have to purchase my sophmore and junior year cards at the escalated price?

Thanks in Advance!

If you're not in a club or team for that year, you do not need to purchase an SGO card. There will be no point.

Hmm I volunteered for freshmen orientation, and I'm supposed to get 4 service credits for that, so how do I receive it?

You do not have to buy one if you do not need it. I know many people who do not/ will not buy SGO cards because they've already received the credits.

I've volunteered for Mr. Evangelist during open house and I was supposed to receive 2 service credits along with 4 service credits from freshmen orientation. Do I just go to them and ask them to sign and hope they remember?

Yes. You should speak to the person you worked for in order to receive credit.
