Hey guys;
I've recently heard from some friends from other schools that some schools allow you to take the regents for second languages that may not even be offered as a class in the school, yet if you know that language, you can take the regents and not have to take a 2nd lang. class anymore. I even think my sister did that in FDR when she went to high school.

Anyway I know Russian natively, and I don't really have much of an urge for a second language class. This year I didn't even get a teacher I like (far from it) and I'll try to switch, but I want to see if I can take the Russian regents, even though it's not offered as a class, and hopefully pass it and not have to worry about 2nd language anymore.

Does anyone know anything about this?
I'm sophmore btw.

Thanks

I don't think it works with regents. You have to take the required classes to take the regent.
APs on the other hand you can take without taking the class. I don't think there is a Russian AP or Regent.

There is AP Russian language and culture but Tech doesn't offer it.

That test is more of a prototype at this point, if successful you'll see it being offered at more schools.

You can take language Regents by speaking to Mr. Arias. In addition to the normal exams mentioned there are some others called "low incidence" exams that are not so popular but do exist. The only regents exams that require you to take the course first are Sciences which have mandated laboratory components.

Wait, so there is a Russian-based exam then? Because everyone else here claims there isn't, or is it just one of the "low incidence" exams (hence why many aren't aware of it)?
I just think it would be good to take it if it does exist after all, so then I kind of have a choice, I might still take french for fun but it's good to have options.

And do these low incidence exams have the same effect as the normal ones? As in, they allow you to be done with 2nd language study and then you don't have to take a 2nd lang class if you don't want to?

Just hoping to clear the smoke a bit here before I ask Mr. Arias.

There's no Russian regents. Here's a list of all the languages:
French
German
Hebrew
Italian
Latin
Spanish (also offered in January)

By "low-incidence" I'm assuming that Mr. Asher was referring to Latin, Hebrew and German.

I just remembered that Staten Island Tech only offers Russian as a language. So they don't have to take the regents after level 3? o.O

Lol, yeah, that was why I wanted to go to SITH originally. But yeah I also thought that was weird, I could have sworn my friends and sister said they took the Russian regents o.O

We also had students last year take Polish and Arabic. See Arias for a complete list. Might also be a good article for the Survey -

Oh, thanks. That PDF was useful (although a bit confusing).
I'll speak to Mr. Arias at some point to figure things out better. Cheers
