Why isnt anything being done to increase the speed of the internet in our school? My guidance counselor couldnt even find my schedule, I spent half of my 1st day waiting in her office...
Why do most computers have trojans and keyloggers? I cant save anything in my USB cause of this BS.

Seriouz Business, its been like this since Freshman Year for me, Now Im a Junior...

The so called "mouse squad" or whatever it is we have up in the 7th floor, in that book storage room, isnt doing S#!T... From what Ive heard, all they do in that room is chat about other stuff or play games such as World of Warcraft.. They hardly even bother to help a teacher in need..

If your talking about the school computers, I don't know why they have them but you should tell the teacher that a raging virus that can possibly steal passwords and delete data is present on their computer...
Other than that, just go use any portable anti-virus and put it on your flash drive, it could fix your problem, but I still seriously doubt there are trojans and keyloggers in a SCHOOL computer.

Your obviously a freshman then. AmIRite? Lets see, the teachers have many classes, and around 30-35 kids per class. The people who Even bother to come down to fix the computers are the kids who work in the mouse squad... If youre taking DDP, just becareful about your USB cause there are several computers in each of the DDP rooms that are infected..

Have you run an anti-virus program on the school computers and confirmed that there are viruses on the school computer? Or are you just assuming that because your flash drive had a virus, it's the school's fault? And if you have an anti-virus program on your computer or flash drive, you shouldn't have to worry so much about viruses.

The internet has always been slow on the school network.
As for viruses, there are some because of the lack of anti-virus software on school computers.
The Mac Lab doesn't have viruses though. =D

Antiviruses are the school's problem, someone has to update them.

As for mouse squad, you really look down on them. It's up to you to report the problem to the teacher and it's up to the teacher to report it to mouse squad.
Then they fix it (and yes they do work and they're damn good at it)

Because Macs are prone to viruses. But theres always the terminal!!! sudo rm -rx pwnedddd

FYI - We are working on having a T-3 line installed to resolve the speed issues. The GC not being able to get the program card is because the central system at NYCDOE is buried during the opening week of school with every GC in the city trying to do the same thing at the same time. Not an excuse but also not something Tech can control.

Class of 2009 worked in the mac lab

Class of 2010 was in the Arch. Lab

Class of 2010 is in the Architecture room too 1N6

I think they do. It's much cheaper for the school, and the DOE to do that.

Not sure if it changed or not but in my freshman year a lot of computers sat there for their whole lifespan with an "update needed" popup that everyone ignored.

After my freshman year at Tech, computers at Tech are NOT slow anymore! lol

Back in 2006, we were actually required to LOG IN to the computers with our BTEmail Username and password...and let me tell you, having hundreds or students log on each period at the same time was not cool. On average it took 20 minutes JUST to log on and by the time you're on, it takes a few minutes for everything to load and by the time you're ready to work, the period is over.

Now you guys are lucky because they eliminated the entire process of having to log in and log out which makes everything move so much faster.

Tech Squad does its job very well. They're not omniscient, so if you have a problem report it and they'll take care of it.If you're seriously paranoid about security, get a copy of whatever software you're using and install it on your own computer. Most teachers will let you use your own computer.

A Mac computer is no more prone to "viruses" than any other properly-configured UNIX system. If you haven't clue as to what you're blabbering about, don't run your mouth to the point that everyone knows you lack one.
Also it's rm -rf.
Also GNU coreutils-rm prevents you from removing the root directory.

They do, however the disk imaging software that many computers use simply wipes any updates after reboot, hence the AV software is severly outdated.
