there were many ideas yelled out at CTC and many of them were good, the SGO got your overall response to the proposed bill. there are certain lists of ideas that wil go up here, along with the questions from today and we hope to get a more concrete and detailed response from everyone on the proposed bill.

if you have any questions/suggestion regarding the meeting today or the bill, ask them here.

I heard about something where failing students were not allowed to do extracurriculars?

A couple of things,
1. One rep per team/club please! It's way too chaotic and I think one rep can do the job just fine! If a club/team fails to send a rep, so be it, it's their fault!
2. Send minutes from CTC just like SGO does from general SGO meetings.
3. If students buy SGO cards at the end of the second term, does that harm SGO/fund distribution?
4. As for the fundraising idea, YES! If a team uses more than $10 per person (the amount that each person pays when they buy an SGO card), then they should be required to have at least two fundraisers.
5. Clubs should also be monitored since many clubs are known for giving "free credits." These clubs simply do not deserve funding.

Hey, these were the questions asked during the meeting:

  •  Should SGO reserve the right to take actions against clubs/teams who:
    •  Send less than the required amount of representatives to CTC
    •  Do not report requested money from other organizations to SGO when
    asking money from SGO. (reword)

  •  Should SGO mandate all clubs who request money $500 and above to have at least 2 fundraisers a year?

  • Should SGO mandate that all club/team members who did not buy their SGO card by the end of the first term be suspended from their club

until an SGO card is bought?

  • For infringing on SGO rules, what punishments would be appropriate for SGO to take against clubs/teams? (Ex. Freezing accounts,

suspending club members, etc.) (this was not asked, but the more ideas you put out the better the bill will become)

i REALLY like that idea (the one of mandating clubs to fund raise if they use more than $10 per member. but i still think that it be suggested  no matter how much you ask for, because if your club has 100 members that is 1000 dollars you are asking

just so you guys know, there WAS an idea that 10% of an allocation must be fund raised but was discarded because of teams such as robotics that ask for a LOT of money (because they need it) and do NOT have a LOT of members

Also factor in that many students are in many different organizations.

So can we get like a total number of students in EACH club?
It's a simple calculation if you can get that total.

Not at all. If I was involved in Red Cross, SGO (3 branches), Swim Team, Key Club, Soccer Team...how would that $10 be split?

Alright then!
Suppose Tech has exactly 5000 students, each in 3 clubs.
This is the equivalent of 15,000 students in 1 club each.
Now, you simply divide the money received through the sale of SGO cards, in this case $50,000 by the 15,000. You get $3.33. Therefore, any team requesting more than $3.33/student should be forced to hold fundraising events. $3.33 is a very small amount, so almost every club will have to pull some weight.

Right but the case isn't the same for all 5000 students. How would you go about calculating per student funding for each case? for each student? for each club? So...are we tagging on a value to each student that joins a club? For example, if I'm only a member of Red Cross and nothing else, I worth more than someone who is involved in 4 other things....See where I'm going with this...not a really...decent idea to tag students with price tag =)

Just count every student equally. It's too much work otherwise.

So should we count each student participating in 2 or 3...or X clubs?

Just add up the total members in each club and and divide by 1000.
