For now. Linux is rapidly growing.
Myself, I use Windows. Its less of a hassle to use than Linux, but at the price of security. No need to recompile the kernel, etc.

you don't have to recompile the kernel to install linux. Well except for gentoo, but i wouldn't suggest gentoo for a begginer. Linux is desighned more securly, i.e. no registry. If your new to linux and have a cd burner and nero/alchohol 120%/roxio and a high bandwith go to www.linuxiso.org and download a distro :-). You can download knoppix, no installing it runs right off a cd, you can run a server w/o having a hdd! It's also good to just try out linux see how it is.

Bill Harper writes "Open source software is a 'waste of money,' a Microsoft executive has said. He goes on to say that governments planning to use it will damage their own economies and that giving away source code is shooting yourself in the foot. What's interesting though is that this is just the latest in a series of nonsense arguments put forward by MS in Asia because it's scared of Linux stealing the market. An early one was that open-source software is anti-competitive!" Funny thing is, the MS executive (Chris Sharp) used to work for Red Hat.

Quite interesting how M$ works on open source, yet says it is a "waste of money."

He thinks that giving away source code is a security threat. I completely disagree with him, because even though there may be security holes in an open source product, they are patched extremely quickly due to the fact that it is....open source. There are legions of programmers willing/are capable of patching them. On the other hand, it usually takes at least a week for M$ to fix its blunders, if they even fix it at all (ahem, Internet Exploder).

Ofcorse, MS has said many untrue things like linux is tied to terrorism. They see open soure as a huge threat

i'm using a dual boot system. I like both for their strengths. I tend to see Windows shortcomings more than linux shortcomings. I primary use Linux if Windows doesn't feel like working.

Using: Mandrake Linux 9.2
