amd is a chip maker like intel. amd64 is the new 64 bit cpu. Intel has a 64 bit cpu(itanium) but it cant emulate 32 bit. Most people here are running 32 bit windows. 16 bit is what a dos prompt looks like, 32 bit is all graphical I want to see what 64 bit is :-). And as I said alot of IT professionals and big servers run linux for many reason. Also alot of developers use it because gcc is better than any windows c compiler.
Yea id also like to add www.microsuck.com is a good site, despite the name.

It's great with 32 bit apps (benchmarking sites show it too). I haven't really tried it with 64 bit apps yet.
I'm too afraid to even touch Windows XP 64 bit edition. I don't trust Microsoft.
On another note, Linux, Macs, and Intel are mainstream. It just depends on what you like. Linux is rapidly gaining foothold in the industry. Personally, I like AMD processors because they are cheaper than Intel, while perform basically the same.
The Duron completely Obliterated the Celeron, at a much lower price point as well.
However, the New Celeron D is a completely different story...
Not to mention the AMD Sempron.
It's easy to get lost with so many new products coming out.

Future proofing. I might try out some 64bit Linux distros once they are more supported (ATI doesn't particularly support drivers that well for 64bit). And when the 64 bit programs start coming, I'll be ready.
