Certainly, the forums here are not what they used to be, but that understates the potential. Attracting and retaining a loyal audience is a tough art and frankly, a very fickle business. A good friend of mine and former leader of BTHSNews, Z2Z, seemed to have gotten the art down somewhat. But of course, he's long since moved on and is now in the heat of his graduate school career.
I still drop by Tech occasionally. I've cut back on visits of late due to the inordinate amount of trouble I go through at the front door - whether I come with an appointment or not. I still come only because of loyalty (though that one is starting wear thin fast) and I continue to enjoy the support of the (dwindling number of) staff that knows me. It seems like on most of my visits to Tech, I end up providing academic support services, help with substantial fundraising or both - all without asking for compensation of my time and services rendered. But frankly, Tech comes across as the most unwelcoming and ungrateful among the high schools I take time off to visit.

Why do I agree with you so much on this point. I feel more uncomfortable trying to get through the ignorant SSAs than TSA agents at the airport security checkpoints...It says something about the level of respect in the building.
