Hello there, here's a guide/information pamphlet about Brooklyn Tech. Not everyone will share the same opinion as I have and I'll probably be accused of damaging the "rep" of Tech. But if this is the "rep" Tech has, it's not worth defending.

Also, have fun while reading this thread.

My Welcome Letter
Welcome to Brooklyn Technical Highschool young grasshopper. One of the reasons you are here is because you've failed to achieve your goal of Stuyvesant, and for that you will suffer here in Brooklyn Tech. Brooklyn Technical Highschool a.k.a BTHS, tech is one of the "top" schools in NYC. Don't be fooled. We're pitiful. Entering here, will depress you. The minute you walk into this school the excitement of highschool will end. You will immediately hate this school with deep passion. Fear not this school isn't filled with only darkness, there are about 5000 students here, some are gonna be your greatest friends. While others? Others will be your greatest enemies.

"The Minute you enter tech, you're in a world of joy, pain, torture, and chaos"

So I'm a good student with a great report card, what's gonna happen when I go to Brooklyn Tech?

Judging from all my friends and people around me, on average grades dropped. Some increased while most of them stayed the same. Personally my grades stayed the same.

What determines Grades here?

One Word, Teachers

Teachers determine everything:

Example given:
Let's say you are a hard worker,
You have a friend who does nothing and slacks.

Depending on your teacher, you may have a "hard"/"decent" teacher who will give you a 85- for doing your normal workload, while the slacker may have an easy teacher and get a 95 for doing nothing but attending class.

Teachers here favor girls, act flirtatious, get good grades. A lot of male teachers have this grading policy, take it to your advantage. It's a good 5-10 points.

How do I get good grades?

Good question. One way of getting good grade is just getting lucky.

If you're not, you'll either have to put in 120% or you're doomed.

I know plenty of students who have a "life" as we call it, and still get about 100% averages.->This is possible.

So, don't panic yet don't take this too loosely.

How do I not look Freshman

I'm a Junior and walking through school I can tell who's Freshman and who's not.

So, here's some general tips

-Don't wear a suit and tie to school, everyday...
-Do not wear your gym cloths, out of gym...
-Don't act stupid like going up the down staircase.
-You don't need a huge book bag. A binder and folder is really all you need.

What are some types of people I'll meet in Tech?

Techies are very unique. I can't generalize them for you, but you know. You'll see the typically Nerd, Wanna be gangster, gangster, jock, Asian, etc.

School Safety

Simple and Sweet, You are not safe here.

The Fort. Greene neighborhood is not safe.
Fort Greene Park Especially,

There are muggers out there. You can and will get beat up.(Fear not Brooklyn Hospital is just a block away! Then again you risk your life going there...)

Look man, I'm being completely honest muggings happen in Brooklyn Tech. I've seen it first hand. It's terrible. And more often than not, the Asian always gets mugged. I can recount a lot of stories from many of my fellow tech students about how they have friends who get jumped by someone and gets straight up mugged.

You can and will get mugged in public with people around and in broad daylight.

In fact here are some stories to entertain you:

I was walking to Dekalb ave one day. I see a group of 4 black kids mugging a Asian guy. This is right after school in broad daylight folks. Like the rest of the 100 people walking past the mugging. I did nothing to stop it. What can I do? I'm a Asian guy smaller than the one getting mugged. Less muscular. After he gave up his cell phone I made sure he was okay before I departed and took my train.
-If I was to get mugged, I'd want someone to help me. Yet when I saw someone getting mugged. I didn't help him out of it either. And for that I feel terrible. But I also got a taste in reality, if you get mugged, chances are no ones gonna help you.

My Teacher told me this one:
A group of her students were walking until they got jumped in broad daylight. The jumpers demanded money from student A, what did student A's friend do?
They Ran.

Another friend shared this one:
A student was outside fort greene park and was threatened by a group of students, the student ended up getting his Ipod taken away in broad daylight.

With all this said, Tech is a lot more dangerous than most of the Jr.High School you guys came from.

Also our security guards are not the most fit people. If you're walking with your Ipod out and you're trying to change a song and someone just grabs your itouch and runs. Chances are the security guard wont be able to catch up...

Student Government
We have something called the student government. Nothing can show a more ineffective government than this one folks.
They're a puppet regime put up by our administration.
Student Government gives you great credits(just like in America, our government gives great benefits for those who work for the government)
Don't count on them doing anything important...

Oh and chances are they'll mess up your club credits one of your 4 years in Brooklyn Tech.

School Administration

Welcome to Brooklyn Tech, you are now leaving America. Here in Brooklyn Tech, we live in Nutsy land. The secret police are watching, Teachers are unable to speak about the crimes of the administration. The administration watches everyone, everywhere. Teachers will get fired if they speak against the Administration, Students caught out of their zone(*cough 9th floor) will get their ID's taken away and reported for further crimes. And maybe this post will be deleted. If it is, we have censorship in this school as well. So if you check back and this thread no longer exist? Censorship begins...

Our administration is absolutely terrible, almost no one likes them. Even our teachers tell us of their hatred for the administration. You might ask, what's so terrible about our administration?

Our school practically runs against you.
They threaten students to buy overpriced items or else they'll cut AP classes.
Everything you want the administration wont give.
The administration cares about making Tech look good.
If the school doesn't get money out of doing it, they won't do it.
They overcharge everything.
They force you to buy items which you will fail if you do not.

Most of the School Administration just doesn't care about the students/clubs/teachers.

Since I'm a junior, I only need to endure one more year of this pathetic dictatorship.
You however have a long journey ahead of you. Become a Egyptian and have a revolution.

Gym

We have a standard uniform, which cost about 23$. I think the lock is included. If it isn't, then it's probably like 18$ extra.

But yeah, for our amazing T-Shirt and shorts it's 23$. Good stuff. You'd think its designer clothing but nah. Just a normal T-Shirt and Shorts.

In Tech, we have locker rooms. Here's what to expect.

The 'Jock' corner, They'll be whipping themselves with their shirts. Just a bromance folks. It's okay.
The 'normal' students, "just change just change just change just change just change just change just change just change just change just change just changejust change, Ignore everyone"
The 'Freshman', "Hey guize, I already have my gym cloths on. All I need to do is take my pants off and bam my shorts are already on. And I wear my shirt everyday"

There's a variety of Gym activities.
(Generally this is how people react to activities. I'm not gonna give you a 100% on this one. But pretty much this is what happens)
1.)Volleyball.
-Typical males "Yo man I cant believe these teachers dont let us spike the ball. Like I'm like 3 ft tall and I can spike balls and girls will drool over my skills"
-Average males "Let's juts play the game"...
-Females "Don't get hit by balls"
-Girls on a team "Please bro, I'll kick your sorry butt in any game any time"
^^ Best type of girls out there folks.

2.)Basketball
-Typical males "I'm like Kobe Bryant, I can dunk over your sad butts. Honestly I'm like 4 ft tall but who cares. I can own anyone of you even if I miss 70% of shots. My ego helps protect me"
-Average males "Lets just play the game..."
-Females "Avoid the ball..."
-Girls on a team "Prepare to lose, sucker..."

3.)Indoor/Outdoor Track
-Everyone suffers here folks. We run around like hamsters around this huge track. Slowly as we run we get "stronger" but you'll pretty much feel like you're dying... But by the end of track you'll miss it. You'll also be proud, "I can't believe I ran that much"

4.)Weight Training
-Typical males "I"m brolic, all the girls will love my muscles. I can bench about 9001 pounds.
-Average males "Well I'm average."
-Girls "BIKES BIKES BIKES BIKES, JUMP ROPE JUMP ROPE."->
-Girls on a team *picks up 20 lb dumbbell* "What you lookin at"

5.Generally anything that involves competition
-Typical males "I'm beast, everyone sucks. My ego covers everything up."
-Average males "I tried..."
-Girls "Yeah, mhm, I did my best"
-Girls on a team "Pwned those suckers"

Drugs

You walk into tech, there's a peculiar smell? What is it?

Weed.
7th floor boy's bathroom?
Weed.
Any peculiar smell?
Weed.
A cigarette?
Weed.
Fire Alarm?
Some idiot smoking weed.

The Elevator/Manwich

I'm proud to say(I think) no one has ever gotten raped on our elevators. It's very crammed. We have about 20-30 people per elevator.
Touching is inevitable.
The idiot screaming "THIS ELEVATORS GOING LOCAL/EXPRESS" is inevitable.
Some kid who walks onto the elevator RIGHT before the door closes is inevitable.

More often than not, the elevator will make you late for class. Take the stairs man.

As for our stairs:
We have a up stair case for a reason. If you see some idiot going down the up staircase don't feel guilty if they "trip" over "something" and slide down.

Take the right staircase. You risk your life doing otherwise.

The good!

Good news is,

We have over 5000 students. You cannot be a loner in Tech. You always have friends.
We have clubs. A lot of em. There's something for everyone here.
If you get a cool/decent teacher you will have a very enjoyable years in Tech.

Well that's it

So here it is man. Welcome to Brooklyn Technical High School.

Have a safe, pleasant, and positive day!

Although I respect your opinions about the school, I feel that they represent only a few of the thousands of students we have at this school. Being a junior, of course you would have more experience at at Tech than many of the other freshmen like me. However, within these five and a half months, I've come to love Tech in so many ways. Of course, Tech has its ups and its downs, just like about any other high school in New York City. I'm surprised that after two and a half years at Tech, you can't find anything good about it. I'm sorry you wasted most of your entire high school life thinking about all the bad things (that aren't actually bad when you don't exaggerate or use false information), when you could've been having a wonderful high school experience. It's a pity that you couldn't see what great things this school has to offer. Maybe instead of scaring the incoming freshmen (I love you guys♥) you could be looking for a better approach to everything you do at Tech, so that it doesn't suck for you. :D

Hey!, im a incoming freshman at brooklyn tech i just got accepted less than a week ago and let me just say you didn't scare me. I still love tech and can't wait to go to tech. Thats just your opinion. I'm sure there is many students at tech that has positive things to say about the school. Unlike you and your negative atitude. Only thing thats scary is muggers. Well thats why they band things such as ipods, CD players, and walkmens from schools so they won't get stolen. I can't wait for my experience at tech. You make your high school experience and your not making it a good one i must say. By the way that was a very punk thing to not help that kid. I mean you could of kicked him in the nuts! lmao ,but i must say this was slightly informal i must say.

I'll sum everything up in one sentence. Wherever you go, whatever you do, your experience is what you make of it.

And I can't believe you guys hate Student Government so much. My class loved what we did and they cared about everything because they knew we cared about everything. They knew their voices were heard and action was taken on behalf of them. I don't know why it turned 180 degrees right after 2010 left..

Never said there weren't anything good about Tech, there are a lot of great people here along with Staff members. I just highlighted the "bad" stuff so people will know, High School isn't something you can breeze through. And Brooklyn Tech is no "utopian" school.

There are many positive things in Tech, such as the clubs. The good students. The good staff. The Elevator experience is fun. I just emphasized the "bad" aspects of Tech because mainly people know it's true and it's to show Tech is no paradise.

ha funny man.

I love tech.

Opinions and experiences, both vary with the student. It's all about perspective.

Though the way Tech looks sorta like a fortress or jail from the outside... should tell you that Tech isn't perfect.
