Since there's going to be a lot of screaming coming from the incoming freshmen, I'm going to post this up for freshmen to read when they find this forum.

Lockers

What to do with them, what not to stuff in them, and where to get them.

Now in "freshmanese"

So what are these lockers?
Lockers are a magical type of storing items and such.

Where the heck are the lockers? I CAN'T FIND THEM!
Look inside the classrooms. We can't have lockers out in the hallway, it clogs and creates human traffic.

What's allowed in these cool container thingymadings?
  • No firearms (guns, and the likes)
  • No switchblades, or knives of any sort. Tooth picks are welcome. (Again, NOTHING AGAINST NYCDOE'S POLICY)
  • No dead bodies
  • Nothing that's larger than 5"x36" (More or less these measurements).
  • Book bags
  • Projects
  • Textbooks
  • Laptops
  • Coats
  • Scarves
  • Any other outerwear
  • Large stacks of papers that you don't want your parents to see
  • Gym clothes
  • ID Cards (Not recommended)
This teacher won't let me use my locker! QQqq!!q1!!!!@W12w!2e12e1e!!!!1

Actually, teachers are allowed to do so. Some restrict their lockers for use for their students only, or open up their classrooms whenever they feel like it/first period or tenth period. Find a teacher/classroom who has an open door policy. They generally let students in for all passing periods, and SOMETIMES during their classes. Don't abuse this privilege. Do your thing, and get out before they start teaching class.

So how am I supposed to find a teacher/classroom with an open door policy?
You suck in your gut, pick up your chest, walk straight to the teacher in the classroom, and ask if he/she will allow you to use your locker during passing/when their lockers will be open. Some teachers share classrooms with other teachers and they both might have different locker policies.

Okay, you told me so many things. Would you like to tell me more?
No. I don't wanna. It's almost 1 in the morning and I'm bored.

): . Are these lockers assigned or are they a free for all?
THESE LOCKERS ARE A FREE FOR ALL.
IT'S A HUGE CROWD OF LOCKER HUNGRY UPPERCLASSMEN. RUUUUNNNNN!

What locks can I use?
ANY! Yayy! You don't have to pay 15 bucks for a lock!

Proper etiquette for locker usage.
DON'T SLAM YOUR LOCKER WHEN YOU'RE MAD THAT YOU FAIL A TEST. BOOHOO.
When someone next to you uses their locker, don't open your locker door all the way, please.
It's slightly awkward when they have to shove your locker door into your face. ):
If someone's using the locker below you, take turns taking things out of your lockers, or stand to the side, and lean over their heads so that your crotch is facing them or mosey over from your current position.
I can't stress this enough. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN ONE LOCKER.
It's not fair for the rest of the people of the school, and no one likes lugging a heavy coat throughout the winter season.

Tips for using lockers?
To make your freshman year less agonizing with the amount of books you carry back and forth classes, I recommend finding a locker that's on a floor that's directly center of all of your classes.
Say you have classes on floors 6, 2, 4, and 4.
The most common, and the middle of these floors is floor 4. Use that floor for your locker situation. I like center section the most.
So, now that you have your conveniently located locker, you can travel to your locker and from your locker to your classes after withdrawing and depositing your textbooks IN YOUR HANDY DANDY MAGICAL STORE 'N GO! (Must have a passing period accessible locker).
Having a locker in your LOTE classroom is convenient as well. Don't have to lug that cool textbook around all day.
Also, please note that the 5th floor HAS NO CENTER SECTION. You can not cross it. It is not possible. Do not think about why. It's just is.
Don't place your locker on the 5th floor if you can help it. Maybe on the south/north sides, but not on the east/west sides. WAY too long to traverse each end/you have to go up/down a flight a stairs to get across 5th floor.

You'll learn the ropes soon enough. Good luck to you and your magical store 'n go adventures!
----

I think I got all of it.
If not, add a post to this thread and we can remake this thread....

It seems that the locker problem is becoming more and more problematic each year with random restrictions from teachers. SGO is in the works with developing a school wide policy...work with your elected and selected officers to express your concerns and input so that they can come up with solutions that work for YOU.

Do we bring in a lock on the first day?

Locks are recommended to be brought in on the first day.
Lockers are on a first come first serve basis. Grab the most desirable locker as you can before all of the lockers get taken.

Be careful of the content you post on the internet and what type of digital footprint you are leaving...But besides that, if you did leave dead anything in your locker.....it would be disgusting.

Remember when you said that the mailbox method of communicating with the SGO members doesn't work well? That's still in use today.
Honestly, BARELY anyone uses the mailboxes. It's in 7c1, in the back, can BARELY see it since a bunch of things are stored in the back and block the mailboxes, and no one even knows it's even there.
Incorrect grammar ftl.

Definitely agree with you. There has to be a better method for you guys to just complain better and have the messages forwarded to SGO as soon as possible.

I would suggest the following: have SGO set up a form on the school website and link that form directly to Mr. Williams, Mr. Kaelin, and the SGO Speaker Dania Sandfia's email addresses so they can see them in real time as messages in their email.

Best lockers are in the English Department room. The room is open ALL the time and it's not a classroom so you can use it ANY time. haha, I wish I had known this freshman year, or at least the beginning of this... :X

I would exercise caution with the lockers in any department offices. The space is meant for teacher use. It is basically their "lounge" - to do work, grade papers, make lesson plans, etc...If you do use the space, be very quiet and respect the folks in there. Don't slam your locker shut and don't bring your paparazzi with you when you get your stuff. Technically they can kick you out and clip your lock.

If you office work on the7th floor then you may be able to get a locker if you're lucky. Luckily for me I got one reserved for the whole 4 years xD

My advice: Pack lightly as possible and eschew lockers altogether.

It is possible. In my four years as a student in Brooklyn Tech, I was able to get through without using a locker (other than for Phys. Ed.).

Refer to what I highlighted in bold and underlining above.

"WHAT CAN WE PUT IN THEM?!" >> Indicates what is acceptable, as the answer to this question is "what we can put in them."

"No" >> Indicates that this is unacceptable in lockers, since it contrasts with the question.
