Hey guys, I'm a freshman and right now I am taking Chinese 1. At first it seemed pretty easy and I thought I got the hang of it. But as the year progressed and
material started to pile up, I don't think I can handle it anymore. There is far too much rules and characters/ stroke patterns of each character and the class is really dragging my average down.

I was just wondering if I can change my language class to Spanish next year.

Note: When I was in the 8th grade, I already took the proficiency so I can take Spanish 2.

Thank You :)

Talk to your guidance counselor.
Maybe they can work something out.

Chinese's really easy though, the textbooks themselves simplified the rules a lot.

Many of the students who speak Chinese are surprised with how difficult the class is. Also, just because they can speak it does not mean they know how to properly write.
You can't expect to do everything, but there is everything to be expected.

I agree with the last post. Chinese is a language that requires 110%.
And no, it is not weird for a Chinese person to take Chinese class, it is a difficult language to learn nevertheless.
And besides-- it is actually kind of hard to see more than 3 non-Chinese kids in a Chinese class. (from what I have observed)
