Is the web design major directed towards css or php? I'm just wondering so I can get ready over the summer and ace that whole class! Although my css is as poor as (not going to say the word since it might be offensive to some people). Also is that standards for that class high? As in lots of students get into that major?

By Web Design, I assume you mean Computer Science, which is now titled, "Software Engineering." If you check the BTHS page for SE, it says this about the programming languages:
http://www.bths.edu/...esc/CompSci.jsp
So you'll be focusing on HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP. It's just basic knowledge to set you up for the next classes. I would say the BTHS page seems more trustworthy considering they spent their time updating the classes. I'm not sure about that "major sheet" though, so just expect a mixture of the classes mentioned available. There's always this Wednesday or Thursday to make sure at the Major Selection Night.
Hope this helped. You're thinking about joining SE? Just make sure you're prepared for the programming and classes offered and you're not one of those stereotypes who think it's either an easy class or that they can take advantage of the computers for FB.If you're not into programming or computers, you're setting yourself up for a whole two years of that major. So just make sure you're sure. Be sure to check out Major Selection Night.
I'm not sure if SE would be as popular, but then again, it's not about what's popular or what your friends are going to. You're going to be locked into that major for two years. Your schedule will be locked into those classes for two years. You can't drop the major unless it's a very race case. So go for what you're passionate about and interested in. Don't waste your last two years of tech wasting them in classes you despise. The difference between those classes and the ones you despise now, though, is that YOU chose THEM.
Talk to current Major students and teachers for the standards. The "major sheet" says 4N2. Check the computers out, check the rooms, plan ahead of time.

Introduction to Programming Through Web Development: By using the languages of the web, students are taught to lay out and organize code. This course teaches students all of the necessities of HTML 5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Javascript, and PHP. The students will learn all of the basic concepts of computer programming while acquiring the skill to build fully functional client and server side web pages.

I just wanted to know if its popular or not so I know my chances of getting into that major. Also should they really be teaching us HTML5 right now? It's not even standardized yet. But by the time I'm a senior it would be standard I guess.
There's a lot of people I don't know so i can't personally say if there's a demand for SE.
As for HTML 5, they're probably just went for whatever was more recent or "newer." By the time you need to "utilize" what you learn, it would have probably been standardized.

Media Major has a one term senior class for Web Design.
Oh yeah, I was going to ask about that. Do we take all the classes listed or how does that work?

The Majors have a set curriculum (unless otherwise noted), so you take all of the classes listed with a major. And since there are limited seats with each major (the number of sections that can be offered), it is very difficult to take a Major class from a different major. This rule doesn't entirely apply to AP classes, but it's true of classes like Web Design in Media or Criminology in Law & Society.
It's much easier being politically incorrect.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up!

No problem. That has been a question about majors since long before I was a student. It's definitely one of the drawbacks to the major system, that there is no way to take everything you want. Hell, neither IAS nor College Prep existed as an option when I was picking majors, so the only "designer majors" offered then were Environmental Science (pick the AP Science class you want) or Social Science (pick the AP classes you want, though SSR is no longer this way).
On the upside though, when you have so many classes with the same people over 2 years, you develop a nice niche of classmates. The majors are another cool thing we tend to socialize around, which is a good thing when our school is so large.
