I'm curious about taking AP Physics B in lieu of Regents Physics in junior year. It saids on the Brooklyn Tech website that if a student does well in their first two years of math and science, he/she may get nominated by their teacher to go for AP Physics B in lieu of Regents Physics. (G. - http://www.bths.edu/....jsp?rn=2775483). Does this program, so to speak, exist anymore? I'm kinda skeptical about what the website saids sometimes. Also, according to the site, there are only 102 seats for AP Physics B. However, there are 3 majors that require their students to take AP Physics B during their junior year and I'm not in those majors. What are the chances of me getting in if my transcript average is 95.5, my transcript science average is 97.0, and my transcript math average is 95.6?

Thanks for the feedback.

I took AP Physics B instead of regents physics for my junior year, but that was only due to my major. However, there was one kid who was a senior and was taking it as well. I have no clue how he got to take it, but try speaking with your major/guidance counselor.

He may be an IAS or Environmental Science students. Both majors require that students take an AP of Science (or Math if you're in IAS).

Elective sections will be driven by the budget. See Mr. Barclay for details regarding the application process.

Unless they become one of the ones who has their offer rescinded due to inconsistent performance in Spring which does not reflect the academic profile under which they were offered a seat.

So true, actually I've seen a bunch of kids slack off during the first marking period but as soon as those grades came in they quickly changed. Senioritis isn't a very big problem at Tech as opposed to other non-specialized schools. Not really sure why our senior shirts are about it :pirate:

Not really, the late kids still come late and most people still do their hw, but I haven't seen anyone get to the point of going from a 95 to just not coming to class.

Do any of you know if it is possible to decline an offer to a AP when we get the results back in May?

It is, end of May/early June when you find out which classes you were offered, you have the opportunity to go to your guidance counselor during that time to drop the course.
But I would say if you're not too sure if you want it or not, don't apply. Many kids would probably really want the spot that you're willing to give up.

I'm skeptical about my chances of getting AP BC Calculus and its double period. If I get it, I'm going to drop AP Spanish, which I think anyone who wants it and meets the requirements, gets it since there is no power index involved in choosing it. So, I don't think I would be causing any trouble by dropping AP Spanish. Do you know if I will get AP AB Calculus if I don't get AP BC Calculus?

EDIT: Oh, never mind about the PI involvement. Didn't see on the site that people are placed by LOTE GPA.

Math you only put your one choice - if you don't get into the math of your choice you just move up to the next math usually (I'm guessing you're in trig honors now, so you'll be moving up to Calculus)

I'm actually taking non AP Calculus this year. So, I'm guessing that I will get AP AB Calc if I don't get AP BC Calc?

I have been wondering. Doesn't Tech have a wait list for AP course selections?
