Haha I saw a bunch of people that have Bing listed around the forum. Are you excited? Have you visited?
Emory is pretty good, we have awesome concerts and events. The city is reachable and the ATL airport is pretty big.
Too bad the food kind of sucks.

Didnt visit yet but I'm totally psyched. There's sooo much stuff that we have to do before classes, so much is in your control. Guess I just got too used to the regular public school system where everything's pretty much set for you.

Are you planning on visiting before actually going there though?
Yeah true. Find a roommate yet? Scheduling your own classes can both be rewarding and a chore lol. I was used to that too. Lots of responsibility and growing up in college I guess.

Yeh I'm visiting in late june/early july for orientation and I'm rooming with a friend from tech :) It's a little funny how for the past few years everyone was yale this and harvard that, but after the first week or so following decision letters no one's going crazy just because they got rejected/accepted somewhere. And surprisingly it doesnt seem like too many (if any?) people are envious of each others schools. Heck I have friends who'll be going to HYPS but I don't view them any differently than I did before. Seems a lot like what happened with the specialized high schools, the whole "I'm so smart because I got into tech thing" which died off within a few days in 8th grade.

Ah that's good. lol I think it's always like that. Everyone "kind of/wants to" shoot big. Life goes on? The college experience is what you make of it lol, finding the right fit is important (like they emphasize). It's nice to hear that no one is judging who goes where. Hopefully HYP doesn't change any of your friends though because I've heard (and also saw) that it tends to make people pretentious. Once you get to a challenging school, everyone is "equally" as smart.

In fact, my friends were intrigued that I applied to mostly small liberal arts schools, but they were pretty supportive. I didn't have the prestige craze. Even "a certain guidance councilor" praised me for my school selections.

What is your intended field of study? Pharmacy I assume? lol. Also financial aid plays a big role.

it was really more premed vs pharmd but im leaning towards emory and macaulay more because i am not 100% sure about pharmacy. For emory i am trying to appeal the aid so i can get more. But yea emory seems awesome ! lols

Yeah it's good to keep your options open if you're not 100% sure you want to do pharm. I would say if you get good enough aid go to Emory! I think they're pretty hit and miss with the aid (some people they give a LOT and some people they give a little). They have an amazing financial aid program. But Macaulay still gives you many great opportunities and it is free (nothing beats free), so don't be too upset if the finances become an issue and Emory just isn't possible.

Of course there's always factors like, being closer vs. being farther, and etc. Staying in the city gives you a ton to do, and the city is your "campus". Some people like that and some don't. Emory would provide you an actual campus with grass and a "traditional college experience" I guess. While there's no shortage of things to do on campus, doing city things like you can do in Macaulay would be a problem. Emory is IN Atlanta, but it's in the northeast "suburbs", so going to Downtown Atlanta requires a car (unless you're willing to spend a lot of time on public transportation) It's kind of annoying coming from the city and not being able to experience city life (I miss it sometimes), especially if you can't drive. Unless someone else is going to Emory with you, you'll probably have to make all new friends without knowing any old ones there - which can be both good and bad. Also, going to Emory would mean you have to pay more for airfare and being away from home a lot.
Oh yea and (maybe), if it ever crossed your mind, greek life in Emory is more predominant compared to Macaulay.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions you can ask lol, I'm pretty free because school ends in a few weeks and I only have one more test, a paper and an assignment left to do before finals. Procrastination - still haven't kicked the habit.

oh wow i thought it would be closer to downtown Atlanta. Some Emory alumni contacted me and told me only 4 techies made Emory this year so it is gonna be basically meeting new people. I do look forward to having that kind of college experience being away from home.

But yea Emory would be my first choice if everything was free lols. Is Emory's workload sorta comparable to tech's? Also is it a cut throat environment down there? But in the end even if i choose macaulay i am definitely getting myself an Emory tshirt lols

It's about 30 minutes away? It's in Druid Hills, which is like a safe rich neighborhood so you don't have to worry too much about crime. You have to take the Emory line bus in order to transfer to the trains that take you around Atlanta. That's better than us last year I think because I don't think many even applied.

Haha if everything was free :p Emory was very generous with my aid so I was able to go for relatively cheap. As for the workload... it really depends on your classes haha. I know some of my friends have intense workloads and some have a good amount of free time. TBH, I wasn't extremely hard working and motivated in high school... so I probably can't make a really good comparison (it would probably be hard to anyway). I can say that typical line though that "Tech prepares you for college"... it's hard work but you definitely can do it, and I would think that Tech at least prepared you to be willing to stay up extra hours just to do work (haha)
Cut throat? Not that I'm aware of. Mix in with the right crowd and people are generally supportive and nice to you. I never really feel like I'm "competing" with anyone here... although this is only my second semester. Haha, I might be able to pick up an Emory shirt for you if you wanted me to - the shipping online is pretty killer.

Not "easy" lol. Most of them are ones that you apply for with only one or a few spots, and some are just merit based.

I'm going to Binghamton, and unfortunately I visited the campus the weekend before spring break lol. The campus is amazing though and I'll most likely be rooming with one of my friends. I just can't wait to move out and take up some muay thai lessons!
You can't expect to do everything, but there is everything to be expected.

Here's how it goes when you move out for college:

1st week - you have the time of your life with no parents being around
End of 1st month - you start missing home
End of 2nd month - you start craving home cooked meals
Middle of 3rd month - can't wait to go home for Break

Fast forward to Winter Break - can't wait to go back to college becuase you're bored to death at home

Then the 2nd half of freshman year passes super duper fast! I'm done in a week and a half!
